Relay Win And Rengo Record Propel Cobbers At MIAC Meet
Londyn Ames, Josie Brown, Kyla Nygaard and Kelyn Henry-Perlich won the distance medley relay and Emily Rengo broke the school record in the 55-meter dash on the first full day of the MIAC Indoor Championship Meet.
NORTHFIELD, Minn. (2/27/26)--- Concordia put themselves into prime position after the first full day of the MIAC Indoor Championship Meet.
Lauren Pearson opened the meet by winning the pentathlon on Thursday and then the distance medley relay team set the stage for a drama-filled Saturday by going gun-to-tap to win the event and give the Cobbers another 10 team points,
Concordia closed out Friday in second place in the team standings with 64.5 points. That is just 5.5 points shy of first place with 10 events to go as they try and track down their first indoor championship since 1999.
Pearson gave the Cobbers the early-meet momentum when she broke the school record in the pentathlon with 3,472 points. Abby Lovelace and 2-sport athlete Kaili Malvey gave CC three finishers in the Top 8 and helped the team score 16 points.
While Pearson opened the meet with a win, the distance medley crew of Londyn Ames, Josie Brown, Kyla Nygaard and Kelyn Henry-Perlich finished off Day 1 with another event win. They struck gold with a time of 12:27.98.
The other headline highlight of the day came in the rarely raced 55-meter dash. Emily Rengo crossed the line in 7.30 which qualified her for the finals. Her time in the prelims broke the school record of 7.34 set by Hall of Famer Angie Pfeiffer in 2004.
The 4x200-meter relay team also had a Top 2 finish. Emma Warner, Piper Osborne, Andie Sandman and Rengo sprinted to silver in 1:45.01.
Nygaard also claimed second in her lone individual event of the day, She was runner-up in the 800 with a time of 2:14.83.
Brown scored in the 400 meters with a seventh-place at 58.99, Henry-Perlich added more points with seventh in the mile at 5:13.69 and Ashley Nelson collected a fifth-place finish in the 5K at 18:28.54 to cap a productive distance slate.
The field squad stacked crucial points as well. First-year athlete Gracie Gallagher placed fourth in the weight throw at 51-07.25, with teammate Genevieve Dabout was sixth at 48-00.75. Osborne and Malvey both scored in the triple jump, finishing seventh at 35-02.00) and eighth at 34-11.25.
Brynley Coleman posted her first MIAC podium finish. She tied for fifth in the pole vault at 10-07.00.
The Cobbers will look to make their push for the title when the championship continues on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 11:30 a.m. at Carleton.
