Northfield, Minn. (2/26/26) – The Concordia‑Moorhead women's multi‑event squad delivered one of its strongest collective showings in recent history at the MIAC Indoor Championships, powered by a sensational championship run from Lauren Pearson, who not only won the pentathlon, but also broke the school record in the 55m hurdles to launch her dominant day.
Pearson made an immediate statement by blasting through the hurdles in 8.46, a mark that rewrote the Cobber record books and established her early control of the competition. She continued to build her lead with a 1.62m high jump, good for second in the field, followed by a steady 10.02m performance in the shot put and a strong 4.93m mark in the long jump. Pearson sealed her title with a composed 2:25.26 in the 800m, bringing her total to 3472 points and securing the MIAC crown in a truly historic performance.
Abby Lovelace kept the Cobbers firmly in scoring position with an outstanding all‑around effort, finishing fourth overall with 3150 points. Lovelace delivered one of the top shot‑put throws of the day at 10.52m, then closed with a strong 800m to lock in her top‑five finish.
Beyond the scoring positions, Concordia showed tremendous depth. Kaili Malvey placed eighth with 2977 points, fueled by standout marks in the hurdles and long jump. Taylor Christenson claimed tenth place with 2793 points after a consistent five‑event series, and Lauren Selle rounded out the Cobber lineup in 13th place with 2676 points, highlighted by her solid high‑jump performance.
With five athletes inside the top 14 and a conference champion who set a new school record, Concordia's opening‑day performance sent a strong message across the MIAC: the Cobber multis are deeper, stronger, and more competitive than ever.
The Cobbers return for day two of the MIAC Indoor Championships tomorrow, beginning at 4:30 PM with the women's 55m hurdles prelims and continuing throughout the evening with a full slate of track and field events.
