Collegeville Is Kind To The Cobbers
Less than 24 hours after cruising past host St. John's in a dual meet, the Cobbers came away with four weight-class titles and 17 Top 3 finishes at the annual SJU North Country Open.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/17/26)---Collegeville was good to the Cobbers over the weekend.
On Friday, Concordia won eight of the 10 individual matches and rolled over St. John's and on Saturday the Cobbers came away with four weight-class champions and 17 Top 3 finishers at the annual North Country Open hosted by the Johnnies.
Seniors Kie Anderson and Mason Swanson and first-year athletes Zaniyan Iron Eyes and Chris Acuna led the Cobber contingent at the multi-team invite. The four all claimed titles in their weight class and were a part of the 17 Top 3 finishers.
Anderson went 4-0 on Saturday on his way to winning the 133-lb gold division. He scored wins over a pair of wrestlers from Wis.-Eau Claire in the first two rounds and then got a medical forfeit in the semifinals before posting a pin at the 46-second mark in the title bout.
The four victories gave Anderson a perfect 5-0 record on the weekend and ups his season win total to 13.
Swanson continued his recent hot streak by going 2-0 in the gold division at 285. He scored a pin in the opener and then a 6-1 decision in the championship bout. Swanson went 3-0 on the weekend, has now won six straight bouts and is 10-3 for the year.
Iron Eyes and Acuna continue impress in their first collegiate wrestling seasons.
Iron Eyes won the title at 141 in the gold division which featured fellow CC teammates Jack Major, Aiden Downing and Xander Spray. Iron Eyes has come away with podium finishes in two of the three invites he has participated in this year. He went 3-0 on Saturday with three straight pins.
Iron Eyes is now 10-2 on the season with four pins.
Acuna has now won his weight-class title in all three multi-team invites he has competed in this season.
Acuna came away with the most wins of any CC wrestler at the North Country Invite as he went 5-0 on his way to the crown at 157 in the gold division. He posted four bonus-point wins on the day with one pin, three major decisions and one win by decision.
Acuna upped his season mark to 15-4. His 15 victories are the most by any CC grappler in 2026.
Downing, Aidan Ruddy, Nick Ankeny, Nate Kisgen, Aiden Russell, Sam Dioszeghy and Kaullen Hegney all earned runner-up finishes at the meet, while Major, Zach Pribyl, Isaiah Schmitz, Dante Novembre, Will Freking and Zach Davidson rounded out the Top 3 finishers with third-place medals.
Concordia will step back in the dual-meet ring when they head across 8th Street to take on MSU Moorhead on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 3 p.m.
