COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (12/06/25)---A pair of key point streaks in each half and a cold shooting touch from the outside in the second period sent Concordia to its first loss of the season.
Concordia gave up a 15-6 run in the first half, a 15-2 stretch in the second half and went 1-for-9 from 3-point range in the final 20 minutes of play as they fell 82-65 at St. John's.
The Cobbers held a 30-28 lead with 3:45 left in the first half of play but were outscored 15-6 down the stretch of the opening period and trailed 43-36 at the halftime break.
The teams traded baskets for the first 7:30 of the second half and a Jackson Loge layup brought CC within four points at 54-50 with 12:37 to play.
St. John's (3-4, 1-1 MIAC) responded with a game-deciding run over the next 6:00 which proved to be the difference in the score. The Johnnies went on a 15-2 run that pushed the four-point lead to 17 points with 6:33 left in the contest.
Concordia shot 42.4% (25-for-59) from the floor but a frigid 3-for-15 (20.0%) from outside the arc. CC was 12-for-16 (75.0%) from the free throw line.
St. John's connected on 44.8% (30-for-67) of their shots from the floor and 40.7% (11-for-27) of their attempts from distance. The 11 made 3-pointers are the most in the season for SJU.
For the fourth straight game Concordia had four of its starters finish with at least 10 points.
Senior Jacob Cook continued his 20-point tear as he finished with 22 points on an 8-for-14 shooting afternoon. He made two of the team's three 3-point shots for the game and also notched a team-high seven rebounds.
Cook has now scored at least 20 points in three straight games and five of CC's first six contests.
Peyton Belka and Loge both recorded 12 points. Belka also added three rebounds and two assists, while Loge came up with six rebounds, a block and a steal.
Sophomore Justin Courneya was the fourth starter in double figures. He posted a season-high 11 points and was 4-for-6 from the field.
Concordia will stay on the road and play at St. Olaf on Wednesday, Dec 10 at 7:15 p.m.
