STORY LINE: Concordia recorded back-to-back conference sweeps for the first time since the 2015 season as they beat St. Mary's 25-21, 25-16, 27-27 on Homecoming Saturday. The sweep comes on the heels of the Cobbers' 3-0 win over Carleton on Friday.
RECORDS: Concordia wins for the third time in their last four conference matches. The Cobbers are now 3-2 in the MIAC and 7-11 overall. St. Mary's drop their second match on the weekend and are 8-8 in all matches and 1-4 in league play.
VETERANS LEAD BY EXAMPLE: Concordia's two non-sophomore or freshmen players had solid matches over the weekend and led by example. Senior Haley Cuppett had seven kills and hit .286 on Friday and then led the team in winners on Saturday with 10 and hit .241. Junior Brianna Carney led CC in kills against Carleton with nine and then tied a season-high in blocks with five on Saturday.
BACK-TO-BACK ATTACK: Concordia put up back-to-back 40-kill matches in conference play for the first time this season. CC had 44 winners on Friday and then backed it up with 43 kills against St. Mary's. The Cobbers also hit above .180 in back-to-back matches for the first time since the opening matches of the year. Concordia hit .322 against Carleton and then came back with a .187 attack percentage on Saturday.
DOUBLE DEUCE: Cobber sophomore setter Jill Klaphake recorded back-to-back 22-assist matches over the weekend as she guided the CC offense. Her total of 22 helpers is not unique this season. She has posted 22 assists in three of the last five matches and four overall matches in 2018. Klaphake now has 773 assists in her career.
DIG THIS: Concordia had five players with at least seven digs against St. Mary's after only having one (Casey Coste) on Friday night. Kortney Carney recorded a career-high 21 digs while fellow freshman Anna Brakke added 12. Sophomore Lexi Turn had nine digs and Haley Cuppett and freshman Paige Fabre both had seven digs on Saturday.
UP NEXT: Concordia will have only one match next week. They will head to St. Paul to take on Hamline on Thursday, Oct. 4. The Pipers are 6-9 overall this season and 0-5 in league play. They are coming off a 3-1 home loss to Augsburg on Saturday.
