Cobbers Compete At Last Chance Meets
LA CROSSE, Wis. (5/14/26)---Sophomore Chloe Mueffelmann like La Crosse so much she decided to purchase a return trip to the Coulee Region in seven days.
Mueffelmann used the Wis.-La Crosse Final Qualifier Meet to post an almost certain NCAA National Meet, which will also be held in La Crosse, qualifying mark in the shot put.
To make Mueffelmann's qualifying feat even more dramatic, she waited until her final throw of the season to post the qualifying mark. She came up with a personal-best distance of 44-08.25 on her sixth attempt of the meet and went from "oh so close" to "pack your bags".
Mueffelmann's final distance was good for second place in the meet in a field of 23 competitors and is currently No.19 in Division III this year. The athletes with the Top 22 marks usually qualify for the national meet.
Mueffelann's distance of 44-08.25 is also No.8 on the school's all-time list.
Mueffelmann was the lone success story for the Cobbers as they tried to qualify several athletes for nationals. Josie Brown came within a drawing sketch of qualifying in the 400-meter hurdles. She crossed the line in 1:01.79 which is a mere .13 of a second away from the 22nd place time on the DIII list. Brown will have to wait to see which competitors accept the bid for the hurdles before finding out her national fate.
Senior Kyla Nygaard also posted a season-best time but came up just short of a national-qualifying time. She clocked a 2:10.71 in the 800 meters which is a PR, but puts her in the No.25 spot for nationals - .20 of a second away from the Top 20.
Emily Rengo (100M), Emma Norton (400M & HJ), Londyn Ames (1500M), Lauren Selle (HJ), Kaia Gack (JT), Genevieve Gruba (JT), Grace Ciarrochi (JT), Ellie Welch (DT), Genevieve Dabout and the 4x400-meter relay team of Rengo, Brown, Emma Warner and Nygaard all tried to qualify for a return to La Crosse but came up short of the mark.
Concordia also sent a group of athletes to the St. Olaf Manitou Last Chance Multi Meet. Lauren Pearson and Abby Lovelace were the two CC competitors who completed all seven events. Pearson won the heptathlon with a score of 4,575 points while Lovelace was fifth at 4,073. Pearson is currently No.28 on the DIII list in the heptathlon wither her score of 4,511 points which she recorded at the MIAC Meet.
Concordia will find out which athletes will earn a spot at the national meet on Sunday, May 17.
