Kalevik Claims Drama-Filled MIAC Heptathlon
Senior Jenna Kalevik posted an eye-opening PR time in the 800 meters to hold off a late-meet charge from teammate, and 2-time heptathlon, Peyton Selle and St. Benedict multi-event standout Justus Floren, and claimed the championship in the MIAC heptathlon.
NORTHFIELD, Minn. (5/02/25)---Make it seven different Cobber athletes to wear the crown of "best all-around athlete in the MIAC".
Senior Jenna Kalevik posted an eye-opening PR time in the 800 meters to hold off a late-meet charge from teammate, and 2-time heptathlon champ, Peyton Selle and St. Benedict multi-event standout Justus Floren, and claimed the championship in the MIAC heptathlon.
Kalevik entered the final event of the 7-event heptathlon with a 41-point lead over Floren and a 62-point cushion over Selle. Kalevik proceeded to run the fastest 800 meters of her life by over 10 seconds. Her finishing time of 2:34.50 enabled her to beat Floren by 38 points and Selle by 47 points in the final standings.
Kalevik finished the seven events with 4,489 points. That total is sixth on the school's all-time list and No.18 in all of Division III this year with the Top 22 athletes earning a spot at the NCAA National Outdoor Championship Meet.
In addition to fellow senior Selle, who won the MIAC heptathlon in 2021 and 2022, Kalevik joins Mikayla Forness (2017), 2-time champion Kaari Jensen (2012, 13), Leah Kay (2008), Sarah Severson (1997) and Beth Stone (1993) as Cobber athletes to win the conference outdoor multi-event crown.
Kalevik finished third in all three events on Day 2 of the heptathlon and finished in the Top 3 in all but one of the seven events.
Kalevik opened Friday by posting a distance of 16-05.75 in the long jump. That mark got her 565 points. She followed the long jump up with a 489-point performance in the javelin, where she came through with a PR distance of 100-08. Kalevik finished off her championship performance with the gutsy run in the 800.
Selle was in the Top 2 in all three events on Day 2. She won the long jump and then placed second in both the javelin and 800. Her top point total was in the 800 meters. She earned 644 points with a time of 2:33.98.
Concordia had two other athletes compete in the MIAC heptathlon. Taylor Christenson finished off the event with a solid score in the javelin and 800 and posted a final total of 3,397 points. That mark is a PR for the first-year athlete, who was competing in her very first conference outdoor multi-event.
Sophomore Grace Ciarrochi ended the seven events with a total of 3,085 points. Her best event on Friday was the long jump, where she placed fifth in the competition with a distance of 15-01.25, which gave her 454 points.
The four CC athletes will return home to compete in the Cobber Open on Saturday, May 3 at 1 p.m.
