Kalevik & Selle Lead MIAC Heptathlon After Day 1
Junior Jenna Kalevik and senior Peyton Selle are atop the leaderboard after Day 1 in the MIAC heptathlon in Northfield. Kalevik is first with 2,797 points and Selle is second at 2,698 points.
NORTHFIELD, Minn. (5/01/25)---Seniors Jenna Kalevik and Peyton Selle are atop the leaderboard after Day 1 in the MIAC heptathlon in Northfield.
Kalevik came up with event wins in the 100-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash, and was second in the high jump, which led to a 4-event total of 2,797 points.
Kalevik's total leads Selle by 99 points and third-place competitor Justus Floren of St. Benedict by 122 points.
Kalevik also led last year's heptathlon after the first four events. In 2024, she posted a score of 2,742 points after Day 1. Kalevik went on to finish fourth in last season's heptathlon.
Taylor Christenson and Grace Ciarrochi were the other two Cobber multi-event athletes in the heptathlon. Christenson is in 11th place out of 18 competitors and Ciarrochi is in 13th place.
Kalevik used her speed to post event scores close to 600 points in both the running competitions. She clocked a 17.12 and scored 867 points in the 100-meter hurdles and finished Day 1 with a time of 26.23 in the 200 meters.
Kalevik cleared 4-11.0 in the high jump to come away with 621 points and recorded a distance of 32-11.25 in the shot put, which earned her 532 points.
Selle, the 2021 and 2022 MIAC heptathlon champ, finished Day 1 with 2,698 points. She won the high jump competition and was second to Kalevik in both the 100-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash. Selle's Day 1 total is 30 points higher than total in 2022 when she won the event.
Her top-scoring event of the day was the hurdle event. She ran a 15.25 and received 809 points. Sell clocked a 26.78 in the 200 to get 730 points and her event-winning height of 5-01.25 in the high jump earned her 689 points.
Christenson's top-scoring event was the 200 meters. She finished fifth in the event with a time of 27.25, which got her 691 points.
Ciarrochi was the most consistent of all four Cobber athletes in the conference heptathlon. She posted a score in the 400s in all four events. Her top event was the opener, where she recorded 491 points with a time of 17.98.
Kalevik and Selle will try to earn "best athlete in the MIAC" honors when the MIAV heptathlon concludes on Fruday, May 2, starting at 10:30 a.m.
