Cobbers Climb To 2nd Place After Day 1 At MIAC Meet
Senior Jenna Kalevik continued to lead Concordia at the MIAC Indoor Championship Meet. A day after she finished third in the heptathlon, Kalevik won the 60-meter hurdles and finished second in the long jump as she helped the Cobbers climb all the way to second place in the team standings after the first complete day of the MIAC Championship Meet.
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (2/28/25)---Senior Jenna Kalevik continued to lead Concordia at the MIAC Indoor Championship Meet. A day after she finished third in the heptathlon, Kalevik won the 60-meter hurdles and finished second in the long jump as she helped the Cobbers climb all the way to second place in the team standings after the first complete day of the MIAC Championship Meet.
While Kalevik's three Top 3 finishes attracted the spotlight, Concordia finished the first full day of team competition by recording five other Top 5 finishes and coming away with 57 team points. They are two points clear of St. Olad and five points ahead of St. Benedict who is in fourth place.
Kalevik earned the win in the 60-meter hurdles by posting another sub-9-second time. She crossed the line with a time of 8.98 seconds which won the event by .21 of a second.
Kalevik finished off her 24-point team total in less than 24 hours by placing second in the long jump with a career-best distance of 17-5.25. That mark is No.11 on the school's all-time list.
The top event of Day 1 for the Cobbers was the 60-meter dash where Emily Rengo, Andie Sandman and Piper Osborne all qualified for the finals in the event. Rengo led the trio by finishing in a school-record time of 7.85. That mark was good for third place in the event and bettered her old program best by .05 of a second.
Sandman also put up a PR in the event when she crossed the line in 7.91 seconds. She was right behind Rengo in fourth place.
Osborne placed seventh in the event with a time of 8.05 which was only a mere .01 of a second off of her personal best.
Junior Kyla Nygaard had the other Top 3 finish for CC. She clocked a 57.48 in the 400 meters and place third. Her all-conference finish earned Concordia six team points.
Concordia also garnered team points from a pair of distance runners. First-year athlete Ashley Nelson came through with a career-best time of 18:23.80 and placed fifth in the 5000 meters. Her MIAC time was almost 14 seconds faster than her previous season best and third fastest in program history.
Fellow first-year distance teammate Kelyn Henry-Perlich also recorded a season-best time in her first career conference meet. She clocked a 5:17.01 in the mile which was good for seventh place. Henry-Perlich's finishing time is also No.9 on the Cobber's all-time list.
Besides Kalevik's runner-up finish in the long jump, the only other Cobber to come away with team points in a field event was senior Brooke Kangas. Kangas placed fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 48-09.50.
Concordia will look to continue its team success when they finish off the MIAC Indoor Championship Meet on Saturday, Mar. 1 at 12 p.m. at St. John's.
