Cobbers Stymied In Sartell Against St. Benedict
Concordia returned to action after a 9-day break and dropped a 5-2 decision against St. Benedict in Sartell.
SARTELL, Minn. (3/29/26)--- Concordia returned to action after a 9-day break and dropped a 5-2 decision against St. Benedict in Sartell.
The loss is only the second in the last six matches for the Cobbers, who fall to 6-8 overall and 3-4 in conference play. The Bennies win for the first time in four matches and are now 3-5 in all matches and 2-2 in conference play.
Concordia conceded the team point in doubles play as St. Benedict swept all three matches to take an early 3–0 lead. Tanis Lee and Alyssa Sommerfeld stayed close at No. 1 doubles before falling 6-4
The Cobbers picked up their two team points in singles play. Both of the victories came in the super-set tie-breaker.
Lee earned the first point at the No. 1 position, rallying from a first-set loss to post a 6-7 (1-7), 6-1, 10-3 win. Lee controlled the second set and carried her momentum into the tiebreak to secure the win.
The singles win was Lee's fifth of the year. She has played all 14 of the team's matches in the No.1 spot.
Concordia's other point came at No. 4 singles, where Annalise Skrade also battled through into the super-set to claim the victory. Skrade won the opening set 6-3, dropped the second 6-4, and then pulled out a 10-6 win in the tiebreak to earn the Cobbers their second point.
Skrade is now 6-7 on the season and is tied for the team lead in singles wins.
Three of the six singles matches went to a third-set tiebreak, highlighting how close the dual was throughout. Erin Borchard nearly added another point at No. 3, but Saint Benedict edged out the match with a 10-8 tiebreak win.
The Cobbers will now have a 2-week break for the Easter holiday and return to action on Saturday, Apr. 11 when they host Hamline at 1 p.m.
