A Close Contest Against The Knights
Concordia came up just a point short in a tightly contested 4–3 match against Wartburg on Monday at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
ORLANDO, Fla. (3/2/2026)--- Concordia came up just a point short in the opening match on their annual spring trip to Florida as they lost a tightly contested 4–3 match against Wartburg on Monday at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
The Cobbers earned wins at two singles spots and took two of the three doubles matches, but the Knights rallied with a trio of super‑tiebreaker victories to edge out the team result.
Concordia set the tone early in doubles. Tanis Lee and Erin Borchard delivered a decisive 6–2 win at No. 1, and the Cobbers secured the doubles point when Annalise Skrade and Ava Lowman closed out a 6–4 decision at No. 3. Wartburg managed a win at the second spot, but the Cobbers carried a 1–0 lead into singles.
Lee continued her strong play at the top of the lineup, powering through a 6–3, 6–3 victory at No. 1 singles to give Concordia its second point of the match. Alyssa Sommerfeld quickly followed, controlling play throughout a 6–2, 6–3 win at No. 2 that pushed the Cobbers' lead to 3–0.
From there, the Knights clawed back. The remaining four singles matches all extended to third‑set super‑tiebreakers, with Wartburg managing to claim each of them. Shireen Durrani captured the opening set at No. 3 before falling in a pair of tight breakers, while Borchard and Skrade each split the first two sets of their matches before being edged 10–7 in the super. Lowman rounded out the singles slate at No. 6.
Concordia moves to 2–6 on the season and continues its spring trip later this week in Florida.
