Metsala's Top 10 MIAC Marks Lead Cobbers At Knight Invite
Callie Metsala posted MIAC Top 10 marks in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard freestyle to lead Concordia at the Jamestown Knight Invite. CC had five athletes post Top 10 finishes at the meet.
JAMESTOWN, N.D. (11/02/24)---Concordia returned to the pool after a 2-week break and came away with multiple Top 10 finishes at the Jamestown Knight Invite.
The Cobbers were led by sophomore Callie Metsala, who posted Top 5 finishes in the 50-yard butterfly, 200-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard freestyle.
Metsala was one of five Cobber swimmers to post a Top 10 finish in Jamestown. Her best event was the 200-yard individual medley where she placed second with a time of 2:20.63. That mark is the third fastest in the MIAC this season.
Metsala was also third in the 50-yard and 100-yard butterfly events and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle. She clocked a 27.10 in the 50-yard butterfly, a 1:02.46 in the 100-yard butterfly and a 56.47 in the 100-yard freestyle. Her mark in the 100-free is one of the best in-season times by a Cobber swimmer and is No.9 in the conference this year. Her time of 56.47 in the 100-yard freestyle is the sixth fastest in the MIAC this year.
The other runner-up finish in the meet by a Cobber athlete was turned in by senior diver Kiernan Darling. She recorded a second-place finish in the 1-meter diving on Friday with a score of 169.30 which was higher than the top competitor from Jamestown. It also marked the second straight meet this season that Darling has earned a Top 3 finish in a 1-meter event.
Fellow senior Hailey Jaeger recorded three Top 10 finishes over the weekend. She touched the wall in 26.90 in the 50-yard freestyle to place 10th in the event. She was also eighth in the 100-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 58.09. That mark puts her in the Top 25 of the MIAC. Jaeger finished off the invite by placing seventh in the 200-yard freestyle. She clocked a 2:11.20 which was also a season best.
Leah Enedy and Christina Moore were the final members of the Cobbers to earn a Top 10 spot.
Enedy had a pair of 10th-place finishes. She swam a 1:17.41 in the 100-yard breaststroke and recorded a 5:36.91 in the 400-yard individual medley – her first-ever career 400-yard medley race.
Moore's Top 10 finish was in the 50-yard backstroke where she posted a season-best time of 33.64 and placed ninth.
Junior Tinsley Porter had a big-time drop in the 100-yard freestyle where she cut almost 2 full seconds off of her previous season-best mark with a time of 1:03.80.
Concordia's top relay of the weekend was the 200-yard medley relay where the quartet of Jaeger, Enedy, Metsala and Porter swam a 2:03.10.
Concordia will start the dual meet portion of its schedule when they host Jamestown on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m.
