Late Goal Secures First MIAC Win
Senior Karsen Granning added to her team-leading goal total as she scored the game-winning goal in the final seven minutes of play to give Concordia a 2-1 win over Hamline.

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/6/19) --- Senior Karsen Granning lived up to her billing as one of the top goal scorers in the MIAC as she punched in a late-game goal to give Concordia a 2-1 win over Hamline. The victory is the first conference victory of the year for the Cobbers.
Granning, whose team-high 11 goals this season is tied for most in the MIAC, took a feed from freshman Grace Lawlor – headed the ball to her feet and then pushed it past the oncoming goalie from the top of the Hamline penalty area. The game-winning goal in the 83rd minute broke a 1-1 tie and put the Cobbers ahead for good.
Granning's day wasn't just limited to her late-game goal. The Alexandria native played a role in the game's opening goal, as she recorded the assist on the Cobbers' opening goal of the game in the 16th minute of play. Granning fed the ball to fellow captain Klara Beinhorn who found the back of the net after the ball deflected off the crossbar. The goal at 15:34 was Beinhorn's seventh of the season which is the second most on the team.
Hamline's (4-8-0, 1-6-0 MIAC) lone goal camefrom Carin Currier at the 20:19 mark in the first half.
The Cobbers were on attack for a majority of the game, outshooting the Pipers 19-9. Concordia's offensive emphasis resulted in an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. The Cobbers kept Hamline goalkeeper Lauren Sicora on her toes with 10 shots on goal - the most Concordia has put up against a conference opponent so far this year.
Concordia (8-4-0, 1-4-0 MIAC) goalkeeper Lexi Jemtrud racked up her eighth win of the year (8-4-0). She tallied four saves on five shots on goal from the Pipers. The sophomore from Fargo now has 40 saves on the year which is the fifth most among MIAC goalies.
The Cobbers' 8-4 record marks the best start the team has had through 12 games since 2015. That year the team started 10-1-1 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
UP NEXT: The Cobbers look to capture another conference win as they head to St. Paul on Saturday, Oct. 12th to take on Macalester at 5:30 p.m. The Scots are 1-8-1 and 1-3-1 in MIAC play.
