Cobbers Run Win Streak To 11 Over St. John's
Concordia dropped the first individual match in its dual meet at St. John’s but then rattled seven straight victories on their way to a dominant 42-8 win over the Johnnies. The Cobbers won eight of the 10 bouts in the dual and posted seven bonus-point victories as they beat St. John’s for the 11th straight time.
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (1/16/26)---Concordia dropped the first individual match in its dual meet at St. John's but then rattled seven straight victories on their way to a dominant 42-8 win over the Johnnies.
The Cobbers won eight of the 10 bouts in the dual and posted seven bonus-point victories as they beat St. John's for the 11th straight time. CC is now 16-2 in the last 18 meetings between the two former MIAC wrestling programs.
Concordia lost the opening match of the night and fell behind but then a win by forfeit from Kie Anderson at 133 and a pin by Jack Major at 141 gave Concordia a 12-5 lead after three matches.
The Cobbers would score 36 consecutive points in their 7-match win streak.
Aidan Ruddy upped the CC lead to 16-5 when he came up with a 17-4 major decision win at 149. Ruddy has now won four straight matches and is 6-6 on the season.
A pin by first-year athlete Chris Acuna at 157 pushed the lead to 17 points and senior Zach Pribyl responded with a 17-0 technical fall in the third period in his bout at 165. Acuna's win is his 10th of the year and gives Concordia a pair of wrestlers with a double-digit win total.
Nate Kisgen and Aiden Russell finished off the 7-win run with two victories. Kisgen won 4-0 at 174 and Russell posted his fifth pin of the year at the 1:57 mark of the first period.
Reigning Cobber Athlete of the Week Mason Swanson finished off the 34-point win when he came through with his fourth straight win. Swanson didn't wait around long as he put his opponent's shoulders on the mat 131 seconds into the match at 285.
Concordia will stay in Collegeville and compete in the multi-team SJU North Country Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 17 beginning at 12 p.m.
