FARGO, N.D. (11/13/25)---Concordia ventured across the Red River for its opening dual meet of the season and lost 46-0 to NCAA Division I opponent North Dakota State.
The Cobbers had wrestlers at all 10 weight classes and were led by first-year athlete Chris Acuna and sophomore Brody Duke. Both wrestlers were able to grind their way through all three periods and lost by decision.
Acuna, who won the 157-lb weight class in the silver division at the season-opening Wis.-Stevens Point Pointer Open, was leading 4-2 after two periods in his match against Brandon Dean at 157, but gave up an escape, was penalized for stalling, lost a point on riding time and fell 6-4.
Duke lost 15-9 at 174 in his first match of the season. He had a huge rally in the third period as he outscored Luke Hoag 6-3 in the final two minutes of the bout. Duke came up with a pair of takedowns in the third period. His other three points came via escapes in the first and second periods.
Senior Zach Pribyl and sophomore Jack Major both put up six points in their matches and lost by a major decision.
Pribyl had six escapes and lost 17-6 at 165, while Major had a takedown in the third period of his match at 141 and fell 15-6.
First-year athlete Zachary Thompson also put up six points in his exhibition match at 149. He led 6-4 at one point in the first period but couldn't sustain the momentum and dropped a 16-9 decision.
Concordia will have a 9-day break before returning to the mat when they participate in the annual Augsburg Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 22.
