Anderson Leads Cobbers At SJU North Country Invite
Junior Kie Anderson led Concordia in its first multi-team invitational of 2025. Anderson claimed the championship in the 133-lb weight class and was part of a group of 12 Cobber wrestlers who all posted Top 5 finished at the annual SJU North Country Invite.
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (1/19/25)---Junior Kie Anderson led Concordia in its first multi-team invitational of 2025. Anderson claimed the championship in the 133-lb weight class and was part of a group of 12 Cobber wrestlers who all posted Top 5 finished at the annual SJU North Country Invite.
Anderson won both of his matches on the day. He started with a 5-3 decision over Travis Moelter from Wis.-Eau Claire and finished off his title run by pinning Ryan Bruckner from the UMD Club Team. Anderson is now 13-8 on the season and has won his weight class in back-to-back multi-team tournaments.
First-year wrestler Jackson Marr earned a second-place finish at 149. He went 2-1 at the meet with a pin over Luke Krier from UW-Eau Claire in the opener. It is his second straight runner-up finish as he also placed second at the MSU Moorhead Dragon Open in December.
Senior Alex McPhee led Concordia in wins on the day. He went 3-1 and finished in third place at 157. He won by fall in the opener but then lost a hard-fought 12-9 decision in the semifinals. McPhee responded by recording a 10-7 decision in the consolation semifinals and ended his day with a 4-1 decision over Kris Castro from St. John's.
The three wins give McPhee14 on the season. He is now 14-7 for the year and has a pair of Top 3 finished in multi-team invites.
Besides Anderson and Mar, Jackson Major, Aidan Ruddy, Zach Pribyl, Connor Chloupek, Mason Swanson and Sam Dioszeghy all came away with two wins on the day and all posted Top 5 finishes.
Swanson led the group of 2-win Cobbers with the highest finish of the day. He was 2-1 at 285 and placed third in the weight class.
Concordia will return to dual meets next weekend when they host crosstown rival MSU Moorhead on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m.
