Mjoness' Two Strikes Nearly Rally The Cobbers

WINONA, Minn. (11/12/21)---Senior Brenna Mjoness' two goals in the third period nearly brought Concordia all the way back from a 2-goal deficit, but the Cobbers fell one strike short in a 3-2 loss at St. Mary's in the conference opener for both teams.

The loss is the first of the year for Concordia who falls to 2-1-0 on the year. The Cardinals even their overall record at 2-2-0.
   
The Cobbers outshot St. Mary's for the first two periods, but fell behind 2-0 after conceding a single goal in each frame.

Mjoness started the Concordia comeback when she netted the first of her two goals in the second minute of the final stanza. Allison O'Kane set up Mjoness' first goal of the year. The marker at 1:48 set up an intense four minutes of play. Hannah Christian had a shot stopped and then CC goalie Kiana Flaig made a big save 2-minutes later.

St. Mary's would put home the eventual game-winning goal at the 5:22 mark.

Concordia then had the better of the zone time for the next 9-minutes as they tried to get back to within a single goal. The answer would come at the 14:43 mark when Mjoness notched her second of the contest. Jerica Friese was credited with her first assist of the year on the play.

The Cobbers then stormed the SMU net and pulled Flaig with 1:11 left in the game. CC had three quality chances, but each time The Cardinals' goaltender came up with the game-tying save.

Concordia wound up outshooting St. Mary's 36-25 in the game. CC has put up at least 29 shots in all three games this year and has a combined 80 in the past two games.

Friese led all players with five shots. Christian, Jordie Egerdahl and Paige Jensen all added four shots each.

Flaig made 22 saves in the 58:59 of playing time.
