Jess Nelson continued her scoring tear as she scored twice and helped Concordia beat Hamline 3-1.

ST. PAUL, MINN. (1/13/17)---Not even the thought of a Friday the 13th curse could slow down Concordia leading scorer senior Jess Nelson.

Nelson added two more goals to her league-leading total to help the Cobbers beat Hamline 3-1.

Nelson has now scored five of the team's last six goals over the last three games. She has 11 goals this season which is two more than she had in her first three college seasons combined.

The win ends a two-game losing skid for Concordia but keeps CC unbeaten in its last four conference games. The Cobbers are 9-4-1 overall and 6-1-0 in the MIAC. The 6-1-0 league mark is tied for the lead in the standings.

Hamline (6-6-1/4-2-0 MIAC) started the scoring midway through the opening period when Zoey Lobejko tipped in a shot from the point at the 10:05 mark.

The Cobbers would finally get on the board with under 4-minutes left in the first frame. Senior Ellen Rethwisch scored her seventh goal of the year at 16:24 to tie the game at 1-1. Nelson and Amber Schaack were credited with the assists on the goal.

The game would stay deadlocked at 1-1 until the final second of the second period despite CC putting up 26 shots on goal in the first 39:59 of the game.

Nelson scored the eventual game winner at 19:59 when she tapped home a rebound. Amelia Amon earned the assist on the goal that sent the Cobbers into the third period with all the momentum.

Nelson would duplicate her late-period feat in the third stanza. She scored with only 14 seconds left in the game to finish off the 3-1 win. The goal came on the Cobbers' eighth power play of the game. Nelson was able to finish off the play after Schaack and Chelsey Petrich set up the strike.

Concordia outshot Hamline in all three periods and by a total of 36-24 for the game. Nelson and Schaack each had a game-high seven shots on goal. Tori Davis added six shots.

KLUG THE CONFERENCE QUEEN: Senior goalie Andrea Klug stopped 23 of the 24 shots she faced on Friday to earn her eighth win of the year. She leads the MIAC in wins and is second in total saves (297). Klug now has 35 wins for her career which is the most of any active goalie in the MIAC.    

A FULL NELSON POWER PLAY: Jess Nelson leads the MIAC in power play points (7) and power play goals (5).                

SCHAACK SUPPORT: Senior Amber Schaack had two assists on Friday, has five helpers in the last three games and now has 10 for the season. That total is third best in the MIAC. Her 10 assists are a single-season career high. Schaack leads the MIAC in shots with 73. 

WHAT'S NEXT: The Cobbers will look for the series sweep when they play the Pipers on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Oscar Johnson Ice Arena in St. Paul.
