SCRANTON, Pa. (3/14/26)—-Concordia's 2026 season finished with the old adage by Chaucer that "All good things must come to an end."
The Cobbers ran into an immovable object in the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament and fell 67-42 to No.2-ranked Scranton.
Concordia has its historic season come to an end after they won the MIAC regular season championship, posted three wins in the NCAA playoffs and finishing with 26 wins. All three accomplishments are among the Top 5 seasons in program history.
The Cobbers found out why the Lady Royals were 30-0 entering the game and had posted an exhibition win over Division I, ACC member Pittsburgh.
Scranton was able to use their size and athleticism to get to the basket on offense controlled the game with their length and speed on defense.
Concordia was able to make several runs at the Lady Royals but each time they were cut short with key baskets on the other end of the floor.
The Cobbers trailed 38-21 at the halftime break and stayed with Scranton in the third quarter. CC outscored the Lady Royals 14-13 in the third quarter, one of the only times all season that Scranton had been outscored in an entire quarter of play, and cut the deficit down to 14 points in the final minute of the period but a last second basket to end the quarter and a 9-2 streak to start the fourth put the game out of reach.
Concordia finished the game by shooting 34.2% (13-for-38) from the floor, 18.2% (2-for-11) from 3-point range and 87.5% (14-for-16) from the free throw line.
Scranton (31-0) shot 47.4% (27-for-57) from the field, 29.4% (5-for-17) from distance and 80.0% (8-for-10) from the foul line.
Two of the key stat categories in the game came from turnovers and from around the hoop. CC had 20 miscues which Scranton turned into a 21-4 advantage in points from turnovers. The Lady Royals also held a 36-16 edge in points in the paint.
Maya Metcalf led Concordia with 17 points and six rebounds to go with two blocks and an assist.
