Cobbers’ Late Rally Fuels 13-5 Victory Over Concordia-Chicago
The Concordia-Moorhead Cobbers broke open a tight game with a seven-run sixth inning to top Concordia-Chicago, 13-5, on Monday in Melbourne, Florida.
Melbourne, Fla. (3/2/26) – Concordia-Moorhead broke open a tight game with a seven-run sixth inning to top Concordia-Chicago, 13-5, on Monday in Melbourne, Florida.
After an early exchange of runs, the game remained close through the first five innings. Concordia-Chicago jumped on the board in the second inning when Haley Gulsby singled up the middle to bring home Emily Lucero for a 1-0 lead.
The Cougars held the advantage until the bottom of the fourth, when the Cobbers rallied for three runs, fueled by two errors and timely hitting. Morgan Guggisberg drove in the first run, followed by RBI singles from Reese Hauck and Megan Guggisberg, giving CMU a 3-1 lead.
Concordia-Chicago responded in the top of the fifth with a three-run frame. Alyssa Campos doubled to score Eliza Auger, McKyler Morris tripled to bring Campos home, and pinch-hitter Alaina Pilas added a single to plate Morris, briefly putting the Cougars ahead 4-3.
But the Cobbers answered immediately in the bottom half, using aggressive baserunning and clutch hitting to regain the lead. Kailee Falconer singled to plate Bailey Plante and tie the game at 4-4. Shortly after, Lily Heskin stole home, and Morgan Guggisberg followed with a single to bring in Falconer, putting CMU ahead for good.
The game was ultimately decided in the sixth inning, when the Cobbers erupted for seven runs. Jocelyn Maki's two-run homer and Reese Hauck's four-RBI blast highlighted the inning, giving Concordia-Moorhead a commanding 13-5 advantage.
Hauck finished the day with five RBIs, Maki added two RBIs and a home run, Falconer scored three times, and Morgan Guggisberg drove in three.
On the mound, Mallory Leitner pitched six strong innings, allowing five runs on 14 hits while striking out three to earn the win, moving to 1-3 on the year.
The Cobbers return to action tomorrow with a 1:30 PM game against Baruch followed by a 3:45 PM matchup against John Carroll.
