NORTHFIELD, Minn. (11/16/24)---The Cobbers made their way back to Northfield for the third and final time this season as they competed in the NCAA North Regional Meet. The meet once again highlighted the consistent season the Goss brothers produced as both ran a personal best.
The Cobbers had to battle winds gusting over 30 mph and the hills at the Carleton College cross-country course. The course features rolling hills, a finishing stretch of over 400 meters and one of the cruelest placed hills in all the region. The hill is over 300 meters long and steep, and the top of it is over 900 meters from the finish line.
Despite all those challenges, the Cobbers put out a solid performance. Concordia placed 20th overall at a meet that featured 31 teams. CC was only four points behind the other Concordia school at the meet, Concordia (Wis). They were also 14 points behind fellow MIAC team Gustavus Adolphus.
The Cobbers Top 5 has not changed since the second meet of the season, and the Top 4 has not changed at all this year.
Brady Goss led the Cobbers on the course as he posted a personal best time of 25:53, besting his previous PR he set two weeks ago at the MIAC Championships by 2 seconds. With his personal best time, Goss placed 64 out of 220. Goss also placed 18th among the 77 MIAC athletes who ran the race.
Goss led Concordia at all six meets this year. He also ended the season having achieved a personal best in the last three meets of the year.
This is the fourth straight season that the Cobbers' top finisher was the same runner all year.
Following closely behind Goss was his brother, Tyler Goss, who was just 3 seconds behind him, clocking in at 25:56. That mark was good for 70th overall and 19th among MIAC competitors. That finishing time was a personal best time by 9 seconds as he went under 26 minutes for the first time in his career.
The time also marked the fourth consecutive meet where Goss has dropped time from his previous meet, and second straight meet with a personal best.
Both Goss brothers improved on their placement from last year by at least 30 places and dropped at least 20 seconds off their finishing time. Brady Goss improved by 32 places and dropped 24 seconds, and Tyler Goss improved by 30 places and dropped 26 seconds.
Runners three, four, and five were the same as they have been for the past five meets.
Junior Carter Ferber was No.3, running a time of 27:40 good enough for a 138th place finish.
Sophomore Brady Andrews was the fourth finisher for Concordia. He placed 150th with a time of 27:57. Andrews improved on his time from last year's regional meet by 41 seconds and by 29 places.
The Cobbers' fifth runner was the lone senior on the team, Lucas Hinojos, who ran a time of 28:18 and placed 163rd overall. This was Hinojos' last race of his career and it took place on the very same course he started his career back on Sept. 25, 2021.
Rounding out the Top 7 was junior David Johnston, who was able to dip under 30 minutes, clocking in at 29:59 and placing 188th, and sophomore Noah Bloch. Bloch placed 195th with a time of 30:53. This was both Johnston and Bloch's first regional meet.
