Evans' Record-Setting Finish Leads Cobbers On Day 1 At MIAC Meet
Tyler Evans became the first Cobber athlete to win the pole vault competition at the MIAC Outdoor Championship Meet and led Concordia on Day 1 of the competition.
NORTHFIELD, Minn. (5/08/26)---Sophomore Tyler Evans record-setting finish in the pole vault led Concordia on Day 1 at the MIAC Outdoor Championship Meet.
Evans became the first athlete to win the pole vault at an outdoor championship meet in program history. He cleared the bar at 15-05 to win the event and claimed the first-ever Cobber pole vault title.
Evans was a part of a quartet of Cobbers who scored team points on Day 1 of the MIAC Meet being held at St. Olaf.
Concordia finished the opening day with 28 team points which has them in sixth place after eight scored events. CC is only five points out of the Top 5 heading into the final day on Saturday.
Joining Evans on the podium were Eli Hayes, Tyler Goss and Cooper Folkestad. Hayes placed second in the javelin, while Goss was fourth in the 10,000 meters and Folkestad was fifth in the discus.
The Cobbers also scored a team point by finishing eighth in the 4x800-meter relay.
Hayes came up with a season-best distance of 180-08 to earn his second straight Top 3 finish in the javelin. He placed third in the MIAC javelin event last year.
Goss opened his outdoor conference meet by clocking a season-best time of 31:50.03 in the 10K. That finishing time bettered his previous season-best mark by 4.60.
Folkestad started his final conference meet by finishing fifth in the discus with a mark of 157-00. It is his second straight Top 5 finish in the event at the meet.
The Cobbers had four athletes qualify for the finals on Saturday, with three of those coming in the hurdle events.
Hayden Hauf and Michael Crowder qualified in the 110-meter hurdles and Ryan Richardson earned his way on to the track on Saturday in the 400-meter hurdles. The final member of the Cobbers' qualifying contingent was Ethan Lebrija, who ran a personal-best time of 21.86 and qualified in the No.6 spot.
The final day of the MIAC Championship Meet will begin at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 9.
