Concordia Opens MIAC Indoor Championship with the MIAC Heptathlon
Concordia began the 2026 MIAC Indoor Championship on Thursday with Day One of the men’s heptathlon, where Joey Molstre, Michael Crowder, and Josh Peterson each battled through a competitive opening slate of events. While the Cobbers faced challenges throughout the day, the trio produced steady marks, highlighted by Molstre’s top‑three finishes in the 55‑meter dash and high jump, helping him close the day in seventh place overall.
Northfield, Minn. (2/26/26) -- Concordia began the 2026 MIAC Indoor Championship on Thursday with Day One of the men's heptathlon, where Joey Molstre, Michael Crowder, and Josh Peterson each battled through a competitive opening slate of events. While the Cobbers faced challenges throughout the day, the trio produced steady marks, highlighted by Molstre's top‑three finishes in the 55‑meter dash and high jump, helping him close the day in seventh place overall.
The meet opened with the 55‑meter dash, where Molstre led the Cobbers in 6.78 seconds to place third. Crowder followed with a 6.83 for sixth, and Peterson finished in 17th after clocking 7.11.
Molstre carried that momentum into the high jump, clearing 1.77 meters to secure another third‑place finish. Crowder added a clearance of 1.62 meters for 11th place, while Peterson reached 1.59 meters to take 14th.
In the long jump, Concordia continued to collect points, with Molstre landing at 5.85 meters for eighth place. Crowder recorded 5.76 meters for 11th, and Peterson posted 5.06 meters for 17th.
The Cobbers wrapped up Day One in the shot put, where Peterson delivered the team's top performance with a throw of 10.04 meters to finish ninth. Molstre threw 9.40 meters for 14th, and Crowder added 8.66 meters to place 16th.
With three events remaining, Molstre sits seventh overall.
Competition resumes Friday with the final three events of the MIAC heptathlon. The Cobbers return to action at 10:00 a.m. for the 55‑meter hurdles, followed by the pole vault at 11:00 a.m. The multi concludes at 2:30 p.m. with the 1,000‑meter run, giving all three Concordia athletes the opportunity to finish the championship's opening event on a strong note.
