Cobbers Get Into The Grind At The UND Open
Concordia officially got into the grind of the indoor season when they competed at the UND Open. CC delivered several season-best performances at the second of seven events in the season.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (1/31/26)---Concordia delivered season-best marks across the board at the UND Open on Saturday.
In the sprints, Nolan Morical posted one of the top performances of the day for the Cobbers, advancing through a highly competitive 60‑meter field to finish in 7.13, which narrowly missed finals. His time was only .06 off his season best.
He returned in the 200 meters with a 22.75, placing him in the top third of the event. Morical also owns a Top 10 time in the MIAC in the 200 meters this season.
Concordia's depth in the short sprints was further evident as Ethan Beasley, Jake Merseth, Hunter Caillier and Ethan Reeder all recorded solid showings in the 60 meters, with Reeder also adding a sub‑8.00 performance.
The middle‑distance group showed encouraging progress throughout the meet. Brady Andrews led the Cobbers in the 800 meters with a strong final‑lap push to clock 2:00.61.
The mile was one of the deepest events for the Cobbers as they had eight athletes in a race that featured more than 60 athletes. Evan Grover led the charge with a time of 4:46.59 while Gavin Carl, Calvin Johnson, Owen Klisch, Joseph Venables, Brody Syverson, Blake Andrews and Avery Harsell all had quality finishes.
Tyler Goss had the best finish for a Concordia athlete in an event that had more than six competitors. Goss clocked an 8:53.96 in the 3000 meters. His time, after the Bill Nye conversion rate, will place him in the Top 15 of the MIAC.
The Cobber field crew also had noteworthy results. Senior Cooper Folkestad finished second in the shot put with a mark of 55-06.25. That distance is shy of his season best at 56-02.00 which is No.6 in Division III.
First-year athlete Chris Verdier was ninth in the triple jump at 45-05.25. That distance is close to his season PR of 45-08 which is No.2 in the MIAC.
Verdier was also the top Cobber finisher in the long jump with a season-best mark of 21-02.00. That distance is No.8 in the conference this year
The Cobbers also fielded three relay teams in the 4x400. The quartet of Brayden Carlson, Ryan Richardson, Joey Molstre, and Michael Crowder delivered the top performance with a 3:28.69, finishing sixth overall and securing one of Concordia's best placements of the meet.
Concordia will stay close to home next weekend when they compete at the NDSU Bison Open and Multi Event on Feb. 6-7.
