Cobbers Find Success In Outdoor Opener
Concordia opened the 2025 outdoor season by getting event wins from All-American Cooper Folkestad and the best distance-running twins in the MIAC and posted 12 Top 5 finishes at the St. John’s Invitational.
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (3/28/25)---Concordia opened the 2025 outdoor season by getting event wins from All-American Cooper Folkestad and the best distance-running twins in the MIAC at the St. John's Invitational.
Folkestad carried over his All-American indoor season momentum to the outside as he came away with the victory in the shot put. Folkestad came through with a toss of 53-11.25 on his very first attempt of the outdoor campaign and won the event by over six feet.
That mark is the top distance in the MIAC this season and No.1 in all of Division III. That distance means that Folkestad should be a shoe-in to qualify for the national meet so he should be able to coast through the rest of the regular season and get ready for a trip to Geneva, Ohio.
The Running Goss' continued their sophomore season success by claiming the 5000 and 10000-meter titles. Tyler Goss, competing in his very first 10K, crossed the line in 31:36.82, which is No.5 on the school's all-time list and third fastest in the MIAC this year.
Buoyed by his first-ever trip to an NCAA National Meet, Brady Goss made easy work of the field in the 5K. He clocked a 15:16.59 to win the event by over 30 seconds. His time is tops in the conference and No.6 on the Cobber all-time chart.
The Cobbers also came away with 12 other Top 5 finishes in Collegeville.
First-year athlete Tommy Schreiner started his first outdoor season by posting a pair of third-place finishes. He was third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.09. That mark is No.11 in school history and the top time in the MIAC this year.
Schreiner was also third in the long jump at 22-05.25. That is also a Top 10 school mark and No.3 in the MIAC.
Ryan Richardson and Brayden Carlson earned the top non-winning finishes for the Cobbers. Richardson was second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.91 and Carlson was runner-up in the 800 meters at 2:03.37.
Richardson's time is the fastest in the MIAC this year, while Carlson slides into the No.3 spot in the conference.
Eli Hayes had the top field finish for anyone not named Folkestad for the Cobbers. He was third in the javelin at 175-08. That distance is second in the MIAC.
Teammate Jacob Pipho was fourth in the javelin with a mark of 164-11 – the fourth farthest distance in the MIAC this year.
