A Trifecta Of Indoor Records
David Supinksi set his third indoor school record as he bolted to a 36.02 and broke the old record last set in 2008.
FARGO, N.D. (2/03/18)--- David Supinski made it a trifecta of indoor school records as he broke the Cobber mark in the 300 meters at the NDSU Bison Open over the weekend.
Supinski already owned the best time in Concordia history in the 400 and 600 meters heading into the weekend and then added the third milestone to his mantle a he uncorked a 36.02 in the 300 meters on Friday night. His time was good for second place in the event and was the only non-Division I finisher in the Top 4 of the race.
Supinski's finishing time betters the old mark of 36.57 set by Josh Smith in 2008 and Andy Becker in 1991.
The 300 meter record caps a calendar year which saw Supinski break the Cobber record in the 400 meters last year at the NDSU Bison Open. Supinski then went on to break the school record in the 600 meters at the MIAC Indoor Meet.
Supinski also competed in the 400 meters at the Bison Open and placed fourth with a time of 50.40 His mark is the fifth fastest in the conference this year.
His two Top 5 finishes helped Concordia finish third at the NDSU Bison Open. The Cobbers ended with 86 team points which trailed only Northern State and the University of Mary.
Supinski's second-place finish was one of three runner-up marks for the Cobbers at the meet. Senior Eli Beachy placed second in the pole vault and Matt Bye was third in a shortened heptathlon field.
Beach cleared 14-11.00 on his second attempt – his first miss at 14-11.00 was his only miss of the event up to that height. Beachy then took another go at bettering his own school record in the event. He put the bar at 15-05.00 but missed on all three attempts. Last year Beachy set the school record by clearing 15-01.50 at the St. Olaf Invite.
Bye finished the seven-event heptathlon with 3,963 points which is the fourth most in the MIAC this season. Bye's total is a career best and the ninth most in school history.
Brett Brenden also posted a career-best point total in the heptathlon. He finished third in the event with 3,900 points. That total is 71 points better than his previous PR and is the fifth most in the conference this season.
Concordia had the only contested runners in the 1000 meters as they tried to qualify athletes for the event at the conference meet. Nick Solheim continued his stellar senior season by crossing the line first among the five Cobbers. His time of 2:37.33 is No.8 on the MIAC best list this year. Freshman teammate Munir Isahak clocked a 2:38.4 which is 10th best in the league.
Solheim also ran in the mile and put up a MIAC Top 20 time by recording a career-best time of 4:29.66. His time is also No.15 on the school's all-time performance list.
WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will finally square off against Division III competition after spending the first three meets of the year battling NCAA Division I, II and NAIA athletes. The Cobbers will head to Collegeville to participate in the St. John's Invite on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 11 a.m.
