Cobbers Continue Trek Toward MIAC Meet
Concordia had had four athletes post top 25 all-time school best marks and came away with 23 personal best results at the SJU Indoor Invite.
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (2/21/15)--- Concordia continued its trek towards hosting the MIAC Indoor Championship Meet by competing in the St. John's Indoor Invitational. The Cobbers had four athletes post top 25 all-time school best marks and came away with 23 personal best results.
A pair of Cobber sprinters recorded the top marks on the school's all-time list. Freshmen Jason Montonye and Chris Cunningham both had times that were 15th best in school history. Montoyne ran a 7.39 in the first qualifying heat of the 60-meter dash and then clocked a 7.42 in the finals to finish sixth in the event. His time in the prelim heat is the 15th fastest in school history.
Montoyne was also 10th in the 400 meters at the meet with a time of 53.16.
Cunningham did his damage in the 200 meters. He was fourth in the event with a finishing time of 23.52. That time is also No.15 on the school's all-time best list and is also in the top 25 of the MIAC this year.
Joe Hendrickson and Carl Wahlin were the other two Concordia athletes who recorded top 25 marks. Hendrickson also made his top 25 mark in a spring event. He ran a 9.36 in the first prelim heat which is No.22 on the school's all-time list. Hendrickson's time qualified for the finals in the event but he failed to realize that he was a participant and did not compete in the finals of the event. Hendrickson's time in the prelims is currently No. 22 on the conference chart this this season.
Wahlin was the only non-sprinter to record a top 25 time. Wahlin, who starred for the Cobber cross country team this fall, ran a 9:19.98 in the 3000 meters and placed fourth in the event. His time is the 25th fastest in program history. That mark also places him in the top 50 on the MIAC this season.
Freshman Nick Solheim posted a pair of top 10 finishes in other distance events. He was sixth in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:53.45 and was ninth in the mile at 4:52.66.
Dominic Neameyer and Gabe Wright came away with the top finishes in field events for Concordia. Neameyer was fourth in the long jump with a distance of 20-02.25 and Wright had a lifetime best mark of 41-04.25 and placed fifth in the triple jump. Wright's distance in the triple jump places him in the top 15 in the MIAC for the season.
Concordia will continue with their schedule as they get closer to hosting the MIAC Meet on Mar. 6-7 when they compete at the Ole Open Qualifier meet on Friday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m.
