MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/24/12)— Dustin Britten cleared more than the hurdles in the 110-meter hurdle event at the annual Cobber Twilight Meet. Britten raced clear of everyone in the race and at the same time passed everyone in the MIAC.
Britten's 110-meter hurdle winning time of 15.21 was the biggest highlight of Concordia's second-place finish at the one home meet of the season. On one of the nicest days ever for the Cobber Twilight, Britten uncorked the fastest time in the MIAC this season and won the race by a full .50 of a second. His time is just .02 of a second faster than the next conference competitor. His finishing time is the seventh fastest in school history.
Britten, Brad McConn and Erik Olson came away with the only event wins of the afternoon for the Cobbers. McConn raced to a 4:03.75 in the 1500 meters while Olson cleared the pole vault bar at 14-09.50. McConn's mark is a season best and the 14th fastest in the conference this season. Olson 's height is the third best in school history and puts him as the No.6 seed in the conference.
Concordia had a quartet of top 3 finishes on the day. Freshman Connor Johnson was third in the javelin with a mark of 162-05.00. That is just shy of his season best mark of 167-01.00 which came at the UM-Morris meet. That distance is the second best in the conference this year. Johnson also finished second in the three-man triple jump with a distance of 42-10.75. That is a collegiate best and eight best in the MIAC. Simon Erlandson captured third place in the long jump with a mark of 20-11.25. Besides Britten and McConn, John Bye recorded the only other top 3 finish in the track events. He was third in the 110-meter hurdles with a finishing time of 15.77. That is a collegiate best for Bye and the ninth fastest time in the MIAC this year.
Concordia will now head out on the road in two different directions. The Cobber relay squads will head South to compete in the Drake Relays on Friday and Saturday while the rest of the squad will take part in the Al Cassell Relays at Jamestown College on Saturday, Apr. 28.
