Singles Success Stop Johnnies

The Cobbers opened the match by conceding the team point in doubles play but roared back to win five singles bouts and claim a 5-2 win.
Concordia has now won five of its last seven matches and is 6-8 overall and 2-3 in conference play. The Johnnies lose for the third straight match and fall to 1-7 on the year. SJU is still looking for its first league win as they are now 0-4.
Concordia built its advantage through successful singles play, winning five of the six matches. Ryoga Yano set the tone at the top of the lineup with a dominant 6–0, 6–2 win at No. 1 singles, while Isaac Maddock followed with a straight-set victory at No. 2, taking a 6–3, 6–4 decision. Logan Sandberg was equally impressive at No. 3, cruising to a 6–3, 6–0 win.
The Cobbers added another convincing point at No. 4 as Kai Pierce dropped only one game in a 6–0, 6–1 win and then Ryan Bitz sealed the team victory at No. 6 singles, battling through a super-set tiebreaker to earn a 6–1, 3–6, 11–9 victory.
Maddock and Pierce lead the team in singles wins this year. Both players recorded their 10th victory of the year with Maddock moving to 10-3 and Pierce at 10-4.
For Pierce, the 10 wins are the most in a single season and he now has 29 career singles wins.
Sandberg and Kai Kringlie claimed the only doubles win for CC as they were able to come away with a 6-2 victory at No.2 dubs.
The win adds to Sandberg and Kringlie's team-leading doubles win total. The tandem are 8-5 on the year with all eight wins coming in the No.2 spot.
Concordia will look to continue its recent success when they host Hamline on Saturday, Apr. 11 at 1 p.m.
