Cobbers Come Up Just Short in 4–3 Road Battle at St. Scholastica
Concordia-Moorhead men’s tennis battled through a series of tight singles matches but was edged 4–3 by St. Scholastica on Sunday afternoon.
DULUTH, Minn. (2/15/26) – Concordia-Moorhead men's tennis battled through a series of tight singles matches but was edged 4–3 by St. Scholastica on Sunday afternoon.
The Cobbers faced an early uphill climb after the Saints swept all three doubles matches. Isaac Maddock and Ryoga Yano fell 4–6 at the No. 1 spot, while the No. 2 tandem of Kai Kringlie and Logan Sandberg dropped a 4–6 decision. St. Scholastica completed the sweep with a 6–3 win over Niklas Cook and Kai Pierce at No. 3 doubles.
Despite the 1–0 deficit, Concordia responded well in singles play.
At No. 2 singles, Isaac Maddock put the Cobbers on the board with a poised 7–5, 6–4 victory. Kai Pierce followed with one of the team's most impressive performances of the day, taking his match 6–3, 3–6, 10–1 at the No. 4 spot to keep Concordia within striking distance. Ryan Bitz added Concordia's third point, rolling to a 6–0, 6–3 win at No. 6 singles.
St. Scholastica secured the dual with wins at the Nos. 1, 3 and 5 spots. Yano fell 2–6, 2–6 at No. 1, and Sandberg dropped a 0–6, 3–6 decision at No. 3. The tightest singles match of the day came at No. 5, where Kai Kringlie won the opening set 6–4 but was edged 3–6, 5–10 in the super tiebreak.
The Cobbers return to play March second when they travel to Orlando Florida to face Wartburg.
