Cobbers Roll Past UW–Superior for Road Victory
Concordia turned in a complete team performance on Saturday afternoon, earning a strong 5–2 road win over UW–Superior behind dominant play in both singles and doubles action.
SUPERIOR, Wis. (2/14/26) — Concordia turned in a complete team performance on Saturday afternoon, earning a strong 5–2 road win at Wis.-Superior in the first match of the 2026 calendar year.
The victory gave head coach Finnian O'Donnell his first collegiate win and moved the Cobbers to 3-3 on the season.
The Cobbers opened the match by taking two of the three doubles courts to secure the early 1–0 lead. At No. 1 doubles, Ryoga Yano and Isaac Maddock controlled the net and delivered key holds late to earn a 6–4 victory over Vitor Sasaya Sakakibara and Igor Guetten Chaves. Concordia doubled its advantage at the No. 2 spot, where Logan Sandberg and Kai Kringlie outlasted Yash Chhabra and Adam Culp in a tight 7–6 battle, giving the Cobbers their second point. UW–Superior took the No. 3 doubles court, but Concordia's early edge set the tone heading into singles play.
In singles action, Concordia took control at positions two through four and at No. 6. At No. 2 singles, Isaac Maddock kept his momentum going with a composed 6–3, 6–1 win over Sharan Sree Kanugovi. Sandberg secured another straight‑set victory at No. 3, defeating Yash Chhabra 6–2, 6–4. At No. 4 singles, Kai Pierce delivered one of the day's toughest efforts, rallying from a set down to earn a 4–6, 6–3, 1-0 comeback win over Mateo Sebastian Abarca Pino.
Concordia sealed the dual at No. 6 singles, where Ryan Bitz battled through a close first set before closing strong in a 7–5, 6–3 victory. UW–Superior earned its two points at No. 1 and No. 5 singles; at the top spot, Yano 2–6, 3–6 to Igor Guetten Chaves.
The Cobbers have a quick turnaround as they travel to Duluth tomorrow to face St. Scholastica for a 12:00 match.
