First Half Goals Not Enough Against Regionally-Ranked Macalester
First-half goals by Gannon Brooks and Ricco Rolle weren’t enough as Concordia gave up four unanswered goals to regionally-ranked Macalester and lost 6-2 at home.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/15/25)---First-half goals by Gannon Brooks and Ricco Rolle weren't enough as Concordia gave up four unanswered goals to regionally-ranked Macalester and lost 6-2 at home.
Brooks gave the Cobbers a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute of play and then Rolle tied the score at 2-2 at the 36:19 mark before the Scots were able to connect on three goals in 17 minutes sandwiched around the halftime break and added the final goal of the game at 72:11.
Brooks opened the scoring when he absolutely hammered a volley from the top of the penalty at the back end of a corner kick. The Cobbers earned a corner on the right wing after a shot by Brooks got turned around the right post.
The corner kick was played at the top of the 6-yard and a clearance by a Macalester player went right Brooks at the top of the penalty area. He took it out of the air off of his chest and then lasered a volley into the top right corner of the net.
The unassisted goal at 25:38 was Brook's first of the season.
Macalester (9-4-0, 4-2-0) tied the game less than a minute later on a shot from outside the penalty area.
The Scots took a 2-1 lead at the 32:27 mark on a corner kick after the ball bounced around inside the CC penalty area.
Rolle would continue the scoring spree four minutes later. And once again the goal came on a dead ball situation. The Cobbers had a free kick from inside the Scots' defensive end and sent it into the top of the 6-yard box. CC first-year defender Preston Bergeron went up with the goalie for the 50-50 ball and it caromed off the pair and went right to Rolle, who tapped home the bunny.
Rolle's equalizer at 36:19 was his team-leading third of the season.
Macalester started their string of four straight goals with 7:15 left in the first half. They went up 4-2 in the third minute of the second half and added a fifth at the 54:00 mark.
The Scotes held a 22-6 advantage in total shots and a 13-4 margin in shots on goal.
Brooks led Concordia with three shots.
Cobber goalie Jack Solheid made several diving stops throughout the game and finished with seven saves.
Concordia will return to action when the host No.5-ranked St. Olaf on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m.
