Saint John’s Edges Concordia in Defensive Battle, 2-1
Concordia University men’s hockey battled hard against Saint John’s Thursday night at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center, but the Cobbers fell 2-1 despite strong offensive pressure and timely saves from Philippe De Champlain. Concordia moves to 11-11-2 overall and 6-8-1 in MIAC play.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/19/26) — Concordia University men's hockey battled hard against Saint John's Thursday night at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center, but the Cobbers fell 2-1 despite strong offensive pressure and timely saves from Philippe De Champlain. Concordia moves to 11-11-2 overall and 6-8-1 in MIAC play.
The Cobbers struck first at 7:07 of the opening period when Joseph Harguindeguy scored his 13th goal of the season, assisted by Jackson Lucia and Tucker Skime. With the goal, Harguindeguy now leads Concordia in goals for the season. Concordia controlled the early pace, testing Saint John's goalie Jon Howe repeatedly, but the Johnnies responded at 14:53 when Cashen Naeve scored to tie the game 1-1.
In the second period, Concordia had a power-play opportunity to regain the lead, but SJU's defense held strong. Saint John's would go on to score the game-winning goal at 12:51 from Seth Terhell, assisted by Jacob McPartland. The Cobbers continued to press offensively, with key shots from Ben Luedtke, Matthew Hard, and Jackson Lucia, but were unable to beat Howe.
Concordia pulled De Champlain late in the third period, creating several dangerous scoring chances, including opportunities from Tal Halliday, Harguindeguy, and Luedtke, but the Cobbers were unable to equalize. Saint John's held on for the 2-1 victory behind strong goaltending and disciplined defensive play.
Concordia returns to action Saturday, Feb. 21, for the final game of the season against the Johnnies at 3:00 p.m.
