LINCOLN, Neb. (4/14/26)---For the second straight season the Cobbers kicked off the spring portion of their schedule by competing in the Howl on the Hill hosted by Neb. Wesleyan at the Hillcrest Country Club.
Concordia started slowly on Monday and finished with a team total of 328 but then rallied on Tuesday to come away with a 313 and placed eighth in the final team standings.
The 2-day total of 641 was 27 shot off last year's pace when they placed fourth in the same meet.
For the second straight year in Nebraska, the Cobbers were led by Ryan Engel. Engel, who won the "Howl" in 2025 opened with a 76 but then fell back on Tuesday and shot an 80. He finished at 156 which was good for a tie for 21st place. Engel's 76 in the opener was the lowest round by any Cobber for the two days.
First-year golfer Carter Midthune was the No.2 finisher for Concordia. Like most of the CC players, he improved from the opener to the second rounds. Midthune went out in 81 and then came home with a 78 to finish at 159. His 2-day total pushed him into the Top 30 in the individual standings.
Junior Jack Hanson and sophomore Mitchell Dewey carded identical scores of 163 and finished in a tie for the No.38 place. Like the team, Hanson had a big improvement from Day 1 to Day 2. He opened with an 86 and recovered to fire a 77 on Tuesday.
Dewey had a 7-shot improvement in the second round. He carded an 85 on Monday and then posted a 78 on Day 2.
Concordia continues with its spring schedule when they play at the annual Bobby Krig Invite hosted by Gustavus.
