Second-Day Surge Sends Cobbers To Top 5 Finish

HAM LAKE, Minn. (8/31/25)---Concordia improved by nine shots on Day 2 from their rust-filled Day 1 of the season-opening Augsburg Invitational.
The Cobbers climbed four team places in the final team standings and finished in a tie for fourth place for the 2-day meet. CC opened the year with a 311 on Saturday but then fired a 302 on Day to climb from eighth to the tie for fourth.
A pair of Bemidji State transfers led the way for Concordia over the weekend. Junior MIAC All-Conference honoree Ryan Engel opened his second season as a Cobber by carding a 1-under 71 on Day 1. His initial round of the year included four birdies.
Engel was in second place after Saturday and shot a 78 on Sunday to post his sixth Top 10 finish in the past two year. Engel's 2-day total of 149 was good for 10th place – only six shots off of medalist honors.
Tony Carlin opened his Cobber account by posting the second lowest score of the weekend by a CC athlete. He opened with a nervous 85, but then settled in to fire a 73 on Day 2. His 73 featured two birdies and 13 pars. He ended the meet at 158, which placed him in a tie for 30th place.
Tommy Disch and Mitchell Dewey were the Cobbers' No.2 and No.3 finishers for the weekend.
Disch opened with an 80 and then posted a 75 on Sunday. His total of 155 earned him a Top 20 finish as he placed in a tie for 20th in the final individual standings.
Dewey was one shot behind Disch, and like Disch, he started his 2025 season with an 80. Dewey rebounded with a 76 that included three birdies.
Concordia will have a 2-week break before returning to action on Sept. 13 when they open the 2-day Wis.-Eau Claire Invitational at the Eau Claire CC.
