Benson Officially Earns First-Ever All-MIAC Honor
Sophomore Gabe Benson (Fargo, N.D./Fargo Davies HS) was officially named to the MIAC All-Conference Team after winning the MIAC Championship Meet last fall.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/13/24)--- Sophomore Gabe Benson (Fargo, N.D./Fargo Davies HS) was officially named to the MIAC All-Conference Team after winning the MIAC Championship Meet last fall.
It is the first time in his college career that Benson has earned MIAC All-Conference honors.
The league releases the All-Conference list after the spring portion of the season even though the conference championship meet takes place in the fall. The Top 10 finishers at the MIAC Championship Meet in the fall automatically earn the award and then five more selections are made by the coaches on the overall play during the entire season.
Concordia has now had at least one All-MIAC golfer for the past 15 years.
Besides the win at the MIAC Championship Meet, Benson also claimed medalist honors at the season-opening Augsburg Invite at the start of September. In addition to his two tournament victories, Benson also finished second at the SJU Spring Invite and third at the SJU Fall Invite.
Benson played in 24 rounds this year and posted an average of 72.4 shots per round. That mark was tied for second-best in the MIAC this year.
Benson recorded five rounds in the 60s and shot a season-low 66 in the second round of the season-opening Augsburg Invitational, which he went on to win medalist honors.
Benson is set to play in the NCAA Championship Meet this week when he tees off at the Boulder Creek Golf Club, in Boulder City, Nevada in a tournament that will be played over four days from May 14-17.
