Tie Score Thriller At Wildflower
Concordia tied for the team championship but lost in the tiebreaker at the Cobber Fall Invite at Wildflower GC.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (9/07/18)---There was good news and bad news for the Concordia on Sunday after the final round of the Cobber Fall Invite at Wildflower GC in Detroit Lakes. The good news is that Concordia tied for first place in the final team standings. The bad news is that they lost out on the team title because of the tiebreaker.
Both Concordia and St. Olaf finished with identical team scores of 615 after the 2-day tournament. The tiebreaking procedure is to take the score of the No.5 golfer for both teams, only the Top 4 are used for scoring in the team total for the round, and that is where the Cobbers fell three shots shy of the overall championship.
Despite not claiming the team title the Cobbers did have three golfers finish in the Top 6 of the meet. Senior Nathaniel Kahlbaugh and Gage Stromme shot identical 151s (75-76) and finished in a tie for second place – only two shots off the leader.
Junior Jared Lind posted the first Top 10 finish in a 2-day tournament in his collegiate career. Lind was three shots off of the pace set by Kahlbaugh and Stromme as he fired a 78 on the first day and then came back with a 76 on Sunday for a total of 154 which was good for a tie for sixth place.
The Cobbers had a pair of players who competed as individuals card the fourth and fifth best totals for the weekend. Blake Kahlbaugh came home in 157 (77-80) and finished in a tie for 13th place while freshman Ryan Paskey was one shot behind at 158 (81-77) and placed in a tie for 17th place.
Matt Kulla and Tyler Bossert were the final two members of the Concordia team playing at the meet. A week after breaking the single round school record Kulla shot 80-79 and was tied for 23rd place and Bossert went 80-85 and was 37th.
UP NEXT: The Cobbers will head west to compete in the Jimmie Fall Classic held at the Jamestown, N.D. Country Club on Sept. 16-17.
