A Long Day At The Spring Opener
Concordia had their two-day spring opener turn into a one-day, 36-hole event and finished 12th at the NSIC Preview Invite.
SMITHVILLE, Mo. (3/25/18)---There will be sore muscles for the Cobbers on Monday as they had their spring opener change from a two-day, 36-hole event into a one-day two-round competition.
Concordia opened the spring portion of their season by shooting a pair of rounds under 320 and finished 12th in the NSIC Preview tournament at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Mo. The Cobbers were the only non-Division II team and shot 632 (318-314) in their first outside action of the year.
The calendar might say it's March but the Kahlbaugh brothers turned back the clock to October as they once again led Concordia. Nathaniel Kahlbaugh shot 73-78 (151) and finished in a tie for 16th place in the event that had 88 golfers.
Nathaniel Kahlbaugh's 73 in the first round tied for his best round of the year. He also shot 73 in the first round of the MIAC Championship Meet and in the second round at the Twin Cities Championship.
Nathaniel Kahlbaugh has now led the Cobbers in two straight events as he finished in a tie for sixth at the MIAC Championship Meet and earned All-Conference honors.
Despite not having any practice time outside Nathaniel Kahlbaugh's two-round total on Sunday lowered his team-leading season average to 76.6.
Blake Kahlbaugh was the only other Cobber golfer to finish in the Top 30 at the NSIC Preview. He had the two most consistent rounds of any CC player and went 76-77 (153) and finished in a tie for 29th place.
Like his brother, Blake Kahlbaugh also lowered his season average. Blake Kahlbaugh is second on the team in scoring with a 77.2 average over his 11 rounds of play in the fall and spring.
Gage Stromme was third for the Cobbers in Missouri. He shot a pair of rounds in the low 80's (82-80), ended with a 36-hole total of 162 and tied for 58th place.
Jared Lind was the final member of Concordia's scoring quartet. He struggled in the opening round and carded an 87 but then rallied in Round 2 and finished with a total of 166.
WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia is schedule to square off against Bemidji State in a dual meet on Saturday, Apr. 7 at the Bemidji Town & Country Club.
