ST. PAUL, Minn. (12/06/14)—Concordia shot a season-low 28.6% from 3-point range and a mere 25.0% from the free throw line and lost 66-49 at Hamline.
The 49 points is also a season low for the Cobbers and only the second time they have been held under 50 points in the past 90 games.
Concordia is now 0-2 in the MIAC to start the conference season. The Cobbers are 3-3 in all games. The Pipers move to 1-1 in league play and 4-2 overall.
The Cobbers had three leads in the game but never had the advantage after the 16:50 mark of the first half. CC led 7-5 before Hamline went on a 15-3 run to take a 10-point lead at 20-10 midway through the opening period. During that "busting open" stretch, HU went 7-for-12 (58.3%) from the floor while Concordia was 1-for-6 (16.7%) and had a pair of turnovers.
The lead would stay around double digits for the remained of the period and Concordia would go into the break down by 11 at 32-21.
Concordia would slowly cut into the lead until they trailed by only four points with 14:00 left in the second half but then six straight points by Hamline pushed the lead to double figures and the Pipers would be able to keep the Cobbers at arm's length for the remainder of the game.
The Cobbers shot 38.2% (21-for-55) from the field and made just 4 of their 14 shots from outside the arc and 3 of their 12 attempts from the foul line.
Hamline connected on 48.3% (28-for-58) of their shots from the floor and 50.0% (6-for-12) from 3-point range.
Concordia was outrebounded 38-33 and the Pipers held a 23-7 advantage in points from players coming off the bench.
Concordia only had two players with more than seven points. Jordan Bolger was 8-for-14 from the floor and finished with 16 points. He also had a team-high seven rebounds. Brandon Giese was 5-for-10 from the floor and came away with 11 points. He also added three assists.
The Cobbers will have a 25-day break for the Christmas holiday. CC will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 31 when they host Crown at 5 p.m. The Cobbers beat Crown 82-48 in the second game of the Snyder Classic at Nebraska Wesleyan on Nov. 29.
