On Your Mark, Get Set, 19-0, Win

LINCOLN, Neb. (11/29/14)—Concordia used a Usain Bolt-like start out of the gates to sprint past Crown 82-48 to win their second straight game at the Snyder Classic hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan.

The Cobbers (Usain) Bolted to a 19-0 lead in the first 5:16 against the Storm. Concordia was able to make eight of their first nine shots in the game with six of those field goals coming from within three feet of the basket. CC's ability to score from in close was highlighted all night long as they scored 54 of their 82 points from inside the "paint" area.

The early 19-point lead helped the Cobbers earn their third victory of the season. Concordia is now 3-1 on the year and remains unbeaten against NCAA Division III competition. Crown continues to search for its first win of the year and falls to 0-7.

Concordia used its athletic inside players to score points on the offensive end and hold Crown to single shots on the defensive side of the court. The Cobbers grabbed 23 more rebounds than the Storm in the game and had 12 offensive boards which led to 12 second-chance points.

The Cobbers had a trio of big men all have near perfect shooting games and combine for 39 points. Jordan Bolger, Brady Syverson and Isaac Anderson all benefitted from their size and quickness around the basket. The three players missed only two shots all game and shot an impressive 89.5% (17-for-19). Bolger had a team-high 14 points and was 6-for-7 from the floor while Syverson was a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor and finished with 13 points. Anderson came away with a career-high 12 points on a 5-for-6 shooting night.

Senior forward Jordan Deutsch had a game-high eight rebounds and guard Tom Fraase was 4-for-7 from the floor and put up 10 points. It is the fourth straight game that Fraase has scored in double figures.

Concordia wound up shooting 53.1% (34-for-64) from the floor in the game. CC might want to see if they can use Snyder Arena for all their home games as they shot a combined 50.4% (64-for-127) from the floor and 50.0% (15-for-30) from 3-point range in the two games at Nebraska Wesleyan over the weekend.

The Cobbers used 14 players in the game against Crown and had all but one score at least two points. They also had 11 players record at least one assist as the team moved the ball around on offense to find the open player.  Fraase tied his career high for assists in a single game with six.

Concordia's defense also limited the Storm to 25.9% (15-for-58) shooting from the floor. Crown was also only able to connect on 24.0% (6-for-26) of their shots from outside the arc.

Syverson and Fraase were named to the Snyder Classic All-Tournament Team. Syverson was a combined 11-for-18 and scored 24 points in the two games while Fraase scored 25 points total and was 5-for-9 from behind the arc.

The Cobbers will now head into MIAC play when they travel to Collegeville to take on St. John's on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m.
