Seniors Are Celebrated In Home Finale
Concordia honored its 15 seniors before its 2025 home finale against No.4-ranked Bethel. The Cobbers gave up multiple points in the second and third quarters and lost 55-9 to the unbeaten Royals.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/01/25)---A pair of big-point quarters proved to be the decisive swing in the Cobbers' Senior Celebration Day game with No.4-ranked Bethel.
Concordia (5-3, 4-3 MIAC) trailed the unbeaten Royals 7-0 heading into the second 15-minute stretch of the game but then allowed 27 points before the end of the first half and 21 more in the third quarter before finally falling 55-9.
The Cobbers came up with their three longest drives of the game in the fourth quarter. CC put together a 7-play, 61-yard play drive that pushed the ball inside the Bethel 5-yard line but CC couldn't find the end zone and turned the ball over on downs.
Their longest drive of the afternoon resulted in a touchdown. CC took over at its own 37-yard line and marched the ball 63 yards for the score. The two biggest plays of the scoring drive were a 15-yard run by Mason Hughes and then the TD strike when Jersey Selzler found Ron Gallegos for a 13-yard reception in the back of the end zone.
The TD was Gallegos' second of the season and second in as many games. Selzler posted his 10th scoring pass of the year.
Concordia's first points of the game came after a 9-play, 54-yard drive that ended in a turnover on downs on the Bethel 1-yard line. The Royals tried to run the ball out of danger, but Cedric Buchholtz was able to bring down the BU running back in the end zone on the very first play from the line of scrimmage.
Bethel (8-0, 7-0 MIAC) outgained the Cobbers 455-232 in total offensive yards. The 455 yards for the Royals are the second fewest this season. CC held the BU ground game to 156 rushing yards, which is also the second lowest total of the year. Bethel entered the game leading the MIAC in rushing offense.
Selzler finished the day by going 15-for-29 for 132 yards and one TD.
Gallegos, Alejandro Sanchez and Grant Mages all had four catches for CC with Sanchez racking up a team-high 78 receiving yards.
Hughes carried the ball 15 times and gained 65 yards.
A trio of seniors carried the defense. Defensive backs Jacob Pipho and McHale Korf both came away with 8.0 tackles in the game, while linebacker Jaiden Musse had 7.0 tackles and 1.0 tackles for a loss.
Concordia will complete the 2025 season with a pair of road games. CC will travel to St. Paul to take on Macalester on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 12 p.m.
