DeMerit Adds D3football Team Of The Week Honor
Stuart DeMerit finished his award tour by being named to the D3football.com Team of the Week. The national honor follows DeMerit being named the MIAC Special Teams Player of the Week as well as the Concordia Athletics Athlete of the Week.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/13/23)---Stuart DeMerit finished his award tour by being named to the D3football.com Team of the Week. The national honor follows DeMerit being named the MIAC Special Teams Player of the Week as well as the Concordia Athletics Athlete of the Week.
DeMerit becomes the first Cobber player to be placed on the D3football.com Team of the Week since the 2021 season when Noah Jenson claimed the honor on Oct. 19, and Damien Silus earned the award on Sept. 14.
DeMerit's "Play of the Week" came in the third quarter of the Cobbers' home opener against Pacific Lutheran. The Lutes lined up for a field goal that could have trimmed Concordia's lead to three points, but instead, widened the margin to 10 points at 20-10.
DeMerit was able to scoop up the ball after Ty Moser blocked the field goal attempt and outrun the entire Lutes team for 93 yards.
The 93-yard TD return off of a blocked field goal is the longest in school history and is believed to be the longest in NCAA Division III history.
In addition to his record-setting return, DeMerit also had 7.0 tackles in the game, a solo tackle for a loss and a pair of pass breakups.
