Cobbers Drop Pair to Luther in Leavenworth
Concordia College Moorhead dropped both games of a doubleheader to Luther College on Saturday afternoon, falling 7-2 in the opener and 19-5 in Game 2.
LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Concordia College Moorhead dropped both games of a doubleheader to Luther College on Saturday afternoon, falling 7-2 in the opener and 19-5 in Game 2.
Game 1:
Luther took control early in the first game, scoring three runs in the opening inning to grab a quick 3-0 lead.
Concordia broke through in the fifth inning when Talan Plante worked a walk, moved up on a wild pitch and later scored on another wild pitch to cut the deficit to 3-1. The Cobbers pulled within one run in the sixth inning when Brayden Wolfgram reached base and Alex Everson delivered an RBI double to make the score 3-2.
The Norse responded with an unearned run in the seventh inning to push the lead to 4-2 before adding three insurance runs in the ninth to secure the 7-2 victory.
The Cobbers finished with six hits in the opener. Luke Knudsen, Jack Primus, Mason Henry, Wolfgram, Everson, and Caleb Johnson each recorded hits for Concordia.
On the mound, Dylan Inniger started and went six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) while striking out seven. Thad Lieser, Vann Olson, and Wyatt Mohr all appeared in relief.
Game 2:
Luther jumped out to another fast start in the second game, scoring four runs in the first inning and adding three more in the second to take a 7-1 lead.
The Cobbers got on the board in the first when Luke Knudsen doubled and later scored on an RBI double from Mason Henry. Concordia added two more runs in the fourth inning. Zack Ehnstrom drove in a run with a double and James Fry followed with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 12-3.
Luther extended its lead with a six-run fifth inning and added another run in the seventh.
Concordia continued to battle offensively late in the game. Pinch hitter Alex Anderson tripled in the fifth and later scored on an RBI groundout by James Stigman. The Cobbers added their final run in the sixth when Ehnstrom scored after Anderson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
The Cobbers totaled seven hits in the second game. Ehnstrom led Concordia with two hits, while Knudsen, Mason Henry, Anderson, Cael Olson, and Fry each added one. Anderson's triple highlighted Concordia's extra-base hits, while Knudsen, Henry and Ehnstrom all recorded doubles.
Brayden Wolfgram started Game 2 for Concordia, while Caleb Johnson, Carter Huotari, Matt Contreras, J. Riley Ohm, and Cullen Norland also saw time on the mound.
The Cobbers return to play March 28th against Gustavus.
