Shumansky's Bat Helps Cobbers Split On Final Day In Florida

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (3/07/26)---Concordia split its final two game on their annual spring trip to Florida. The Cobbers rallied to beat Utica 4-3 in the opener and then fell 9-5 in the second game. The split gives CC a 5-4 record for the year.
Ben Shumansky had a huge day at the plate for Concordia as he went 5-for-8 in the two games with six RBI and two home runs.
Concordia 4, Utica 3
Concordia used late-inning execution and a walk-off single from Luke Knudsen to cap a 4–3 comeback victory over Utica on Saturday morning.
The Cobbers improved to 5–3 on the year behind timely hitting and a strong finish on the mound.
After three quiet innings from both offenses, Concordia broke through in the fourth when Mason Henry ripped a two-out double and Shumansky followed by driving a first‑pitch offering over the left-field wall for a two‑run homer.
The long ball was Shumansky's second of the season and the third homer for the Cobbers in Florida.
Utica answered with solo home runs in the fifth and seventh innings and took a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the frame.
The Cobbers responded immediately in the bottom half of the seventh. Jack Primus singled, Drew Dorsey added another hit, and Zack Ehnstrom delivered a game‑tying RBI single to left‑center to make it 3–3.
Wyatt Mohr took over on the mound in the eighth and shut the door, retiring all six batters he faced to keep the game tied entering the bottom of the ninth.
Luke Van Erp opened the inning with a walk, moved to third on a sacrifice and a groundout, and Knudsen ended the game with a sharp single up the middle to score the winning run.
Knudsen and Primus each finished with two hits, while Shumansky drove in a pair on his fourth‑inning homer.
Brayden Wolfgram started the game, worked seven innings and allowed just four hits. Mohr improved to 2–0 with his two perfect frames in relief.
Concordia outhit Utica 8–4 and committed no errors in the win.
Concordia 5, Beloit 9
Concordia couldn't overcome a big middle‑inning surge from Beloit and dropped a 9–5 decision in their second game of the day.
The Cobbers struck first, getting an RBI single from Shumansky in both the first and third innings to build a 2–0 lead.
Beloit answered with three runs in the third and then broke the game open with a five‑run fourth, capitalizing on two walks, an error, and a pair of RBI swings to go up 8–2.
Shumansky continued to carry the Concordia offense, driving in a third run with an infield single in the fifth and later launching a solo homer down the left‑field line in the eighth. He finished the day 4-for-5 with four RBI, accounting for nearly all of the Cobbers' scoring.
Shumansky finished the spring trip by leading the team in hitting with a .433 average and a .700 slugging percentage.
Concordia added its final run in the eighth when Alex Anderson entered as a pinch hitter and delivered a single to left that was misplayed, allowing Wolfgram to score from third.
Concordia matched Beloit with 11 hits, but the Buccaneers drew eight walks.
On the mound, the Cobbers used six pitchers, with David Revering working a clean eighth inning and Vann Olson and J Riley Ohm each posting scoreless frames.
Concordia is schedule to play four games against Luther on Mar. 14-15 in Independence, Iowa.
