Davenport, FL (2/28/26) – The Concordia baseball team opened its RussMatt Tournament schedule with a strong all-around performance, earning a 3–0 victory over the University of Dubuque behind dominant pitching and steady offensive execution.
The Cobbers used a complete staff effort to control the game from the first pitch. Brayden Wolfgram set the tone early, striking out the first three batters he faced and collecting five strikeouts in his first two innings of work. The right-hander delivered six shutout innings, allowing just two hits and three walks while striking out seven to earn his first win of the season. He faced only 23 batters and kept Dubuque off balance throughout his outing.
Concordia turned the ball over to Thad Lieser, who recorded three strikeouts in a scoreless inning of relief. Lieser's overpowering appearance helped maintain the momentum and protect the lead. Wyatt Mohr followed with two dominant innings, striking out six to secure the save and close out the shutout victory.
Offensively, Concordia tallied 12 hits and manufactured runs across multiple innings. Luke Van Erp, Jake Gruebele, and Jack Primus each drove in a run to pace the lineup. Gruebele led the way, going a perfect 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Drew Dorsey added a double in the sixth inning, moved to third on a fielder's choice, and later scored on a single by Gruebele. The Cobbers also drew three walks to complement their offensive production.
Defensively, Concordia played clean baseball, committing just one error behind its pitching staff.
With the win, the Cobbers build early-season momentum and turn their focus to the remainder of their non-conference schedule.
The Cobbers will continue their Florida trip tomorrow with a doubleheader against Marian (Wis.), beginning at 11:30 a.m. (CST) in Winter Haven.
