Dorsey Reaches 100 In The Final MIAC Game Of The Year
Senior David Dorsey became the 32nd player in school history to reach the 100-hit mark with a single in Game 2 of the Cobbers' doubleheader at St. John's.
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (4/29/25)---It was a tale of good news, bad news in the Cobbers' final conference doubleheader of the season.
The good news came in the form of senior David Dorsey, whose seventh-inning single in Game 2 notched his name in the Concordia record book as he became the 32nd player in school history to reach the 100-hit milestone.
The bad news was that the Cobbers could never come up with a big-run inning against the Johnnies and lost 4-1 and 4-3.
Concordia posted four single-run frames in the two games and ended its MIAC season with a 9-11 record. CC is 18-19 in all games with two games remaining in the 2025 campaign.
St. John's wins for the fifth straight game and ups their overall record to 23-13. SJU is 13-5 in conference play and in third place in the league standings.
Game 1: Concordia 1, St. John's 4
The Cobbers led 1-0 heading to the bottom of the third before St. John's recorded back-to-back 2-run innings to come away with the 3-run win.
Dorsey crossed the plate in the second inning to plate Concordia's only run of the opener. He reached on a 2-out error, took second on a walk to Ben Shumansky and scored on a single to center field from senior Justin Kloster.
The only other hit in Game 1 for CC came in the fifth when Caiden Kjelstrom poked a 2-out single through the left side of the infield.
Dorsey was the only other baserunner in the game as he walked twice. He also recorded his seventh stolen base of the season.
Junior Brock Anderson got the start on the hill. He went 3.1 innings and allowed four runs. He ran into trouble with six walks and a pair of hit batters.
Wyatt Mohr and Ethan Beyer pitched the final 2.2 frames and didn't allow a run. Mohr went 1.2 innings and allowed only one hit. Beyer cleaned up the sixth with the only 1-2-3 inning of the game.
Game 2: Concordia 3, St. John's 4
The Cobbers outhit the Johnnies 10-9 in Game 2. Both teams scored all seven runs in 1-run stages. CC never led in the finale. They trailed 2-0 heading into the fifth, scored once in the inning, trailed 3-1 in the seventh, scored once and SJU countered with the winning run in the bottom of the inning before Concordia closed out the score line with a lone run in the eight.
Concordia had the tying run in scoring position in the eighth and ninth innings but couldn't come up with the clutch hit to tie the game. CC went 2-for-17 (.118) with runners in scoring position and 2-for-10 (.200) with two outs in the game.
Kjelstrom led the offense with a 3-for-4 game. He had one of the two CC RBI in the game.
Freshman Luke Knudsen had the other RBI. He went 1-for-5.
Dorsey was 1-for-4 with his milestone hit in the seventh inning. He also scored two runs.
Concordia used two pitchers in Game 2. Senior Dylan Inniger carried the majority of the load. He went 7.0 innings and gave up four runs on eight hits and struck out three.
J Riley Ohm shut the door in the eighth inning to give CC a chance in the ninth. He allowed a single hit but got the final two batters he faced on a fly out to center and a ground ball to third base.
Concordia will finish the season when it faces Wartburg in a doubleheader at Gustavus on Saturday, May 3.
