First Two Innings Help Cobbers Cruise Past Polars
A 6-run first inning followed by a 3-run second frame gave Concordia all the runs it would need in its non-conference home game with Crown. The 9-run offensive explosion in the first two innings helped the Cobbers cruise past the Polars 12-2 in a game that ended in the bottom of the seventh inning due to the 10-run rule.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/22/25)---A 6-run first inning followed by a 3-run second frame gave Concordia all the runs it would need in its non-conference home game with Crown.
The 9-run offensive explosion in the first two innings helped the Cobbers cruise past the Polars 12-2 in a game that ended in the bottom of the seventh inning due to the 10-run rule.
The win is the second straight for Concordia and ups their season record to 17-14. Crown loses for the first time in the last four games and falls to 16-14.
All of Concordia's runs in the first inning came after there were two outs. CC was helped by a key error, a hit batter, a passed ball and a wild pitch. The biggest hit of the opening inning came from senior Justin Kloster, who drove a shot into the right-center gap that plated one and ended up with Kloster on second.
There were more passed balls in the second inning that allowed Cobber runners to move into scoring position and David Dorsey and Brayden Wolfgram took advantage with run-scoring singles.
The Cobbers tacked on single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings. Kloster had another RBI hit in the fourth, Ben Shumansky drove in his second run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the sixth and Caiden Kjelstrom ended the game when he brought home a run on a foul out with the bases loaded.
Concordia outhit the Polars 8-6 in the game and had a .428 average with runners in scoring position.
Freshman pitcher Grant Paffrath got the start in the non-league game and went 5.0 innings to earn his third win of the season. His three wins are tied for the team lead. Paffrath gave up five hits and one earned run.
Kyle Cluff and Cullen Norland finished off the sixth and seventh innings without allowing a run. Cluff pitched the sixth and gave up one hit, while Norland faced the minimum number of batters in the seventh and struck out one.
100-Hit Watch: Senior David Dorsey went 3-for-3, scored four runs and drove in a run on Tuesday. He now has 97 career hits and needs three more to become the 32nd player in program history to reach the 100-hit milestone.

Lots of Home Cooking: The game against Crown was the Cobbers' 11th straight home game. CC will finish off their 13-game home stand on Wednesday. The 13 consecutive home games is the most in program history and most for any team in the MIAC in the history of the league.
Concordia will finish off their record-setting home stand when they host Gustavus on Wednesday, Apr. 23 at 1:30 p.m.
