Cobbers Fall Twice In Arden Hills
The Cobbers lost a pair of games a Bethel in a doubleheader that was originally scheduled to be played on Tuesday but was postponed until Friday because of the cold weather. Concordia fell 3-1 in the first game and 11-5 in Game 2 as they dropped their second road doubleheader to start the conference season.
ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (4/04/25)---The Cobbers lost a pair of games a Bethel in a doubleheader that was originally scheduled to be played on Tuesday but was postponed until Friday because of the cold weather.
Concordia fell 3-1 in the first game and 11-5 in Game 2 as they dropped their second road doubleheader to start the conference season.
The Cobbers are now 8-10 in all games and 0-4 in the MIAC. Bethel claims its third straight win and is now 12-6 overall and 3-1 in league play.
Game 1: Concordia 1, Bethel 3
Neither team was able to score in the first three innings of the opener. The Royals broke the deadlock with two runs on one hit in the fourth.
Concordia cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the sixth. Caiden Kjelstrom opened the inning with a double down the left-field line, advanced to third on a single from Thomas Horan and scored on a fielder's choice ground ball by Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe.
Bethel reclaimed the 2-run lead in the bottom of the sixth when they posted three singles.
Pitching was the story of Game 1. The two teams combined for only seven total hits. The Cobbers had three hits, with Kjelstrom, Horan and Luke Knudsen accounting for CC's total.
A pair of Dylans went the distance on the hill for Concordia. Dylan Inniger made the star for Concordia on the hill and lasted 3.0 innings. He only gave up one hit but was saddled for a pair of runs. He also struck out one. Dylan Erholtz entered the game in the fourth inning and also went 3.0 innings. He allowed three hits and one earned run.
Game 2: Concordia 5, Bethel 11
A pair of big innings proved to be the difference in the finale. Bethel scored four times in the second and capped the game with three runs in the bottom of the eighth to come away with the 6-run win.
The Cobbers had a brief lead in the game as they scored the first run on a double from David Dorsey in the top of the second. His 2-bagger plated Ben Shumansky, who led off the inning by getting on base via an error.
Concordia scored two runs in the fifth and ninth innings. The two runs in the fifth cut the deficit to 5-3, but then the Royals matched the 2-run inning in the sixth, added a single run in the seventh and three more in the eighth.
Henkemyer-Howe and Shumansky drove in runs in the fifth and a 2-run homer off the bat of Horan accounted for the runs in the ninth. The long ball was Horan's first of the season and the 11th of his career.
The Cobbers had 10 hits in Game 2. Horan, Knudsen and Henkemeyer-Howe had 2-hit games as the Top 4 in the order went 7-for-17.
Concordia used five pitchers in the nightcap. Jacoby Nold went the first 4.0 innings and was followed by J Riley Ohm, Wyatt Mohr, Gavin Gast and Ethan Beyer all followed with single-inning outings.
The Cobbers will return to Moorhead to host Crown in a doubleheader on Tuesday, Apr. 8 at 2 p.m.
