Frappier And Krueger Pitch Gems In Sweep of Luther
Zach Frappier earned a complete-game victory in the opener and Shawn Krueger pitched six strong innings in the nightcap to help Concordia sweep Luther 5-3, 8-1 in a doubleheader.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (3/10/12)— Zach Frappier earned a complete-game victory in the opener and Shawn Krueger pitched six strong innings in the nightcap to help Concordia sweep Luther 5-3,8-1 in a non-conference doubleheader in the Metrodome on Saturday. Chris Gilson went 4-for-6 in the two games as the Cobbers earned their first two wins of the year.
Frappier was the story of game 1. He pitched the full 7.0 innings and did not allow an earned run. He gave up eight hits and struck out four in picking up his first win of the season. Frappier earned the win by pitching out of a huge jam in the seventh inning. With the Cobbers leading 5-2 in the top of the seventh, the Norse put their first two hitters on base. Frappier then induced a 6-4-3 double play and then finished the game by getting a fly ball to right field.
Michael Olson delivered the biggest hit of the game for CC. Olson hammered a cannonading shot over the left field fence in the three-run third inning. Olson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI in the opener. Brad Olson was the only other CC batter to have more than one hit. Brad Olson was 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI.
Both teams had eight hits in the first game.
Concordia seized control of the second game in the third inning. The Cobbers opened up a 1-0 lead in the second frame and then added three more in the third to take a commanding 4-0 lead. CC had a pair of hits in the second inning when they scored their first run of the game and then added three more hits in the third. Chris Gilson had a two-run single in the third as he went on to go 3-for-4 in the finale with two RBI.
The Cobbers put another crooked number on the board in the sixth inning when they plated four runners on seven hits. CC started the inning with three straight hits and wound up sending nine hitters to the plate. Jordan Doschadis had a two-run single and Braden Rahman doubled in a run.
Krueger picked up where Frappier left off as he allowed only one earned run and just four hits in six innings of work. Krueger struck out two and allowed only one walk. Erik Simmons came on in the seventh inning and allowed one hit and fanned one of the four batters he faced.
Concordia will continue their weekly trek to the Metrodome when they square off against Loras (Iowa) on Friday, Mar. 17 in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. The Cobbers will then turn around and face the Duhawks on Saturday, Mar. 18 at 7 a.m.
