Cobbers Fall In Series Finale To #2 Falcons
Concordia finished off its 2-game series with No.2-ranked Wis.-River Falls by falling 7-1.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/04/25)---Concordia finished off its 2-game series with No.2-ranked Wis.-River Falls by falling 7-1.
The Falcons were able to score the first seven goals of the season as they notched their ninth win of the season.
Unlike Friday's game where the Cobbers were able to score the opening goal of the game in the first five minutes of play and then battle River Falls until the final 15 minutes of play, on Saturday the Falcons posted two goals in the first 2:30 of the contest and rolled to the win.
Concordia's lone goal came at 8:12 of the third period off of a River Falls turnover. Senior Jerica Friese poke checked the puck off the stick of one of the Falcon's defenders on the right side of goal and buried the loose puck into the net before the UWRF goalie could react to the play.
The goal was Friese's fourth of the season, third in the last three games and fourth in the last sixth. Her four goals is second on the Cobbers' this season and she has 39 career goals.
The game was nearly a penalty-free affair with only four minor penalties called in the game. Concordia was called for a single penalty in each period, while UWRF had their lone penalty whistled in the final four minutes of play.
Wis.-River Falls (9-2-2) held a 47-18 advantage in shots on goal for the game. Taylyn Cope led CC with three shots on target.
The Cobbers split the goaltending duties. Ashlea Arvidson played the first 40 minutes and made 33 saves. Kate Stephens entered at the start of the third frame and made seven stops.
Concordia will face another nationally-ranked Wisconsin team next week when they travel to Eau Claire, Wis. to take on Wis.-Eau Claire on Jan. 10-11.
